This was being caused by Bitdefender (My antivisrus software) stopping the update of the registry. When I tried again BitDefender gave me the option of allowing the update - this option was selected and the update applied successfully. First, I downloaded "windows install cleanup" tool. next goto "add remove programs" and manually remove .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 If like me it appears not to work you need to run the Cleanup tool you just downloaded and remove the service pack. After this you need to manually download and Install the service pack direct from the microsoft website, use the following url http://www.microsoft.com/downlo
Thu, 19 May 2005 05:44:00 ========== The downloaded update resides on my HD, but will not install. ========== Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903) Error Code: windowsupdate_00000643 E0434F4D Top 1. Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version windows install cleanup 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903) 2. .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903)? Hello, I have a development .net framework cleanup tool machine (Windows XP SP2, all security updates/fixes, 20GB C partition, 60GB D partition) with Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 installed (I do dev work in both). I already have SP1 for .NET 1.1 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/1e5a3d6f-273f-4dbc-b859-169305aec668/windows-update-error-643?forum=systemcenter and VS2003 installed, but I want to install the latest SP1 release for Visual Studio 2005, but it requires 6+GB of space on the C: drive. The problem is that I only have about 4GB available on my C partition, so I am trying to clean up. On my development machine , I have two items listed in my Add/Remove programs list: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and http://www.yqcomputer.com/1024_25590_1.htm Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903) Each of these take up about 1 GB each. It sounds odd that in order to run the 1.1. framework (with sp1), I need 2+GB of storage. Can I remove one of these components to free up some space WITHOUT affecting the installation of 1.1 SP1? Any other ideas for making some room (I have done all the standard stuff like cleanmgr, etc.)??? I also have SQL Server 2005 installed, but all the data files are on my D partition, not the default C drive. TIA!!! 3. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Error Code: 0x643. 4.
