of IISare installed. I ticked the World Wide Web Services when I installed the IIS. When I typed http;//localhost on the Internet Explorer 7,Error message comes out so I made myself a default html page saying that this is a test page. That is fine. I can get that page. And any html files I created and saved in www.root folder. I can see in the Internet Explorer after typing http;//localhost/anything.html. But as soon as I asp net 500 error create an ASP page and saved in www.root folder,HTTP500 Internal Server Error Page cannot displaycomes out in Internet Explorer. Ther are two asp files already in www.root folder I did not make those, they came with IIS. One call iisstart.asp and another call localstart.asp. I typed http;//localhost/iisstart.asp and alsoI typed http;//localhost/localstart.asp but result is the same. HTTP 500 Internal Server Error Page cannot display. When I double clicked the iisstart.asp file in the www.root folder, It opens up with the Dreamweaver and saying as follows. Under Construction(www.root/iisstart.asp) Under Construction The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded and configured. Please try this site again later. If you still experience the problem, try contacting the Web site administrator. When I double clicked the localhost.asp file in the www.root folder, it opens up with Dreamweaver and saying as follows. Wellcome to Window Xp Server Internet Services(www.root/localstart.asp) Your Web service is now running. You do not currently have a default Web page established for your users. Any users attempting to connect to your Web site from another machine are currently receiving an Under Construction page. Your Web server lists the following files as possible default Web pages: . This will http://forums.iis.net/t/1127251.aspx?ASP+file+with+HTTP+500+Internal+Server+Error eliminate the possibility that an application problem is causing the error. These steps assume that IIS is in the default configuration with the Default Web Site and content in C:\inetpub\wwwroot. A) Create a text file with the following text and save this as c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Test.ASP <%Response.Write(“Hello”)%> B) If there is a Global.ASA file located in C:\inetpub\wwwroot rename this temporarily for testing (i.e. Global.asa.txt) C) Test the page Http://localhost/test.asp https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/webtopics/2010/02/26/asp-500-error-and-error-code-0x800700aa-when-browsing-a-simple-asp-page/ If the error does not occur with the Test page then the resolution below will not apply. Troubleshooting To troubleshoot this we used Process Monitor to gather a log when attempting to execute an ASP page. When we got the error, we stopped the Process Monitor log then searched ( Edit > Find) for w3wp.exe. We right-clicked on this and selected “Include w3wp.exe” ,which filtered the log. So now we were filtered down to only items relating to IIS’s worker process. The next step required a little knowledge of the internals of ASP to recognize something was odd about what was being called, but since we know the answer we can just jump to what we found. In the process of executing the page we found the following call to a McAfee component used for scanning VB Script code. 12:31:49.0797868 PM w3wp.exe 8264 CreateFile C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\scriptsn.dll PATH NOT FOUND But in our customer’s case McAfee was not installed, which explains the PATH NOT FOUND error. However it then begged the question, why is access to a non-installed component being attempted? The answer is in this Registry entry. The CLSID below would normally be pointing to VBScript.dll which is used to execute the AS

However; there asp 500 error is nothing showing up in the Application Event Log where I would expect to see a (more) detailed description of the entry. In my experience, if the event log is empty than the request wasn't correctly routed to the worker process. In one of our recent deployments we saw the app work intermittently with about 50% of the requests randomly failing with the 500 error and nothing in the logs. I suspect something is going wrong with the AppDomain unload that occurs after deployment. Out of curiosity, are you running antivirus in your production environment? Does an IIS reset solve the issue (until the next deployment)? –ShadowChaser Feb 21 '13 at 16:17 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 22 down vote accepted Take a look at IIS7's Failed Request Tracing feature: Troubleshooting Failed Requests Using Tracing in IIS 7 Troubleshoot with Failed Request Tracing The other thing I would do is tweak your
