When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied." Any ideas? We used to do this for anyone not in the domain admins group so its possible they have done the same thing and your account just needs adding to whichever group (or OU) that this does not get applied to. 0 Datil OP Robert.P Feb 7, 2011 at 5:48 UTC @Nick-C: Yup. Tried https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/127420-active-directory-administrator-doesn-t-have-permissions creating brand new account, manually adding to domain admin. Didn't work. Then tried copying default admin account, also gives the error. The weird thing is the permissions are in place - I can go via MMC & manually ad snap-ins & all other (so far) admin tasks. I just can't open admin tools from shortcuts. 0 Datil OP Robert.P Feb 7, 2011 at 5:49 UTC Chris128 wrote: Do they have a GPO that blocks access to certain MMC snap-ins? Not GPO's set up that I can find. I can use the snap-ins - just not from the shortcut. 0 Datil OP Robert.P Feb 7, 2011 at 5:50 UTC Not sure if it's related - every time I log on the Manage Your Server window opens but nothing in it loads due to a script error. 0 Chipotle OP Simon1964 Feb 7, 2011 at 6:31 UTC are there any related messages in the eventviewer? 0 Datil OP Robert.P Feb 7, 2011 at 8:15 UTC Nothing specific I could find. I'll save & clear the logs & keep an eye on it. 0 Poblano OP Geoff Airey Feb 7, 2011 at 11:45 UTC Does it work if you log in as THE administrator account? If so your new user doesn't have the same permissions. 0 Dat

I can access those functions by http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/got-access-denied-to-all-msc-files-such-as-services-msc-etc.3657049/ using this method though: run mmc and then add the snap-in. So I think it maybe not permission issue. All other domain computers do not have this issue. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks. shimh, Oct 27, 2008 #1 Advertisements Mehran Guest Hi, I have encountered the exact same problem. This happened after I rebooted the server last week, just prior this reboot the server installed the following Microsoft Updates; KB948745, KB49014, KB950762, KB950974, KB951066, KB951072-v2, KB951698, KB951746, access denied KB951748, KB952954 and KB938464. I could be wrong, but check to see if you have recently had any of these updates installed, and that may give us some clues.
