You say that 135 is open, if we look at Service overview and network port requirements for the Windows Server system KB832017. We see that it uses: <<>> RPC/named pipes (NP) TCP 139 RPC/NP TCP 445 RPC/NP UDP 137 RPC/NP UDP 138 Note The Event Log service uses RPC over named pipes. This service has the same firewall requirements as those of the "File and Printer Sharing" feature. <>> Is "File and printing sharing enabled" in the firewall?Oscar Virot Sunday, January 15, 2012 2:23 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote yes TCP139 is open. takes a few minutes. Join Now I'm swamped, but nevertheless, I'd like to solve this. I have mostly XPs and a few Win7 PCs on Windows 2003 domain with one Windows 2008 R2 Server. From network admin account, I can open Computer Mgmt console and access remote XP PC Windows Logs and whatnot, but can not do this for Win7. I also tried from the Win2K8 server and no dice. WMI and WS-Management services are running on the Win7 and the firewall is off. Weird is that I can access Local Users and Groups and Services, but not the logs. Rather than beating my head hunting down this issue, I thought maybe someone has a quick fix. BTW, Spiceworks picks up all the events with the same domain account if that is helpful. To resolve the "Access Denied" error when attempting to remotely connect to Device Manager, Event Viewer and Disk Management, the user attempting to connect must have domain admin rights, and the Remote Registry service must be running on the client computer. I created a GPO called "Remote Administration" which allows remote access to the PnP interface, allows inbound remote administration exception (with IP 192.168.1.0/24), and configures the Remote Registry service to start automatically In the future, any new domain admin accounts should be given permission in the security tab of the remote registry service in the GPO. Also, a little more info that could be relevant: http://www.chicagotech.net/Windows/remotemgr.htm 1 Cayenne OP Michael911 Jul 15, 2011 at 9:08 UTC Hi Denis, Check this link out. I don't think it's possible to access Windows 7 event logs from anything earlier than Vista. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766438.aspx
Hope this helps. 0 Tabasco OP Darko1884 Jul 15, 2011 at 9:17 UTC You can also just create a GPO that sets domain admins as local administrators on whatever
