Details: SQL Error: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' I've tried using a password, as well as not using one. I've used MySQL in the past, but I've uninstalled it, and I started fresh with HeidiSQL. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks. Cody 6596 posts ansgar posted 9 years ago You uninstalled MySQL ? I guess you mean MySQL-Front? The message "access denied" means you have to find the right password for root. A fresh MySQL server normally has an empty password set for this root user. If you changed that password yourself, noone else than you will be able to tell it. Or, you can temporarily configure the server to ignore the authentication tables, so you can connect to it with empty user and password. You will have to add this to your my.ini file: [mysqld] skip-grant-tables=1 Don't forget to remove the entry from your my.ini afterwards because that's extremely insecure. 2 posts Amps posted 9 years ago Okay, now i'm getting "SQL Error: Can't connect to MySQL server on 127.0.0.1 (10061) 6596 posts ansgar posted 9 years ago Most obviously your mysql server has been stopped in the meantime. Just restart it by doing a net start mysql or c:\path\to\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe --standalone on the commandline or whatever. 1 posts Cheddars posted 9 years ag

It is running at "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\" Now, when I try to connect using "heidisql" tool using user name as "root" and password as "eagle" then it connects properly and show the databases which I had created. Now I open Command Prompt and go to the location where my MySQL service is running, Here I executed http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19946470/mysql-not-connecting-with-command-prompt the same command but not working like shown below, C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin>mysql -uroot -peagle ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Also, now I closed all the mysql server and then typed "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin>mysql" then it connects properly. I am not getting as all my mysql server is off then whom it is connecting to. I am suspecting some where I have 2 instances of mysql running but I checked ControlPanel, Services running, No where I found any other service. If any body faced such issue and solved, please suggest me solution. mysql heidisql share|improve this question asked Nov 13 '13 at 6:00 Jayesh 2,04012651 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote There can be some root users on the same MySQL server which differ by host, for example - 'root'@'localhost', 'root'@'%', 'root'@'server'. All these users can have different passwords. Check it firstly, and specyfy -h or --host option in your command line. Also, command line syntax is incorrect, it should be like this - mysql -u root -peagle share|improve this answer edited Nov 13 '13 at 7:23 answered Nov 13 '13 at 7:09 Devart

I have Windows 7 and have installed MySQL 5.1 through Web Platform Installer. I have HeidiSQL installed to manage data in MySQL, but how do I connect? In Heidi it's asking for 'Hostname / IP' which is prepopulated with 127.0.0.1. It access denied for prepopulates the user field to 'root' (which is right) and I'm entering the password I chose when MySQL was installed. However, it just errors when I connect, saying: SQL Error (1045): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES). Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Many thanks... mysql share|improve this question asked Oct 21 '12 at 14:44 Dan 150119 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted MySQL servers require you to have a valid password and also the client connection must originate from a host that the MySQL server has been told to accept connections from. Both items are configured in the 'users' table of the mysql default database. When you installed MySQL, it may have prompted you to set a root password. Once that password is set, you have to first login to the server as root and add additional ACLs to allow you to connect from other sites. What you have pasted indicates to me that you're trying to connect to your local machine (127.0.0.1) with the root user, but the MySQL user is denying the password. If you haven't actually configured the root password, it may be blank (null field for password.) If that doesn't work, you may need to use a script that came wi
