What you are looking for is 'Path to executable:'. This probably reads mysql access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password no) as C:\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe MySQL It needs to be changed to "C:\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe" --defaults-file="C:\WINDOWS\MY.INI" MySQL The only way I have found of doing this is to alter the Registry, using Regedit. The key to be changed is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MySQL\ImagePath You need to modify the key to read as above, including the quotes. Stop and restart the MySQL service, and MySQL Administrator should then

I haven't been able to find documentation of this particular problem on several guides, and mysql's configuration file, my.cnf does not appear to be in the same place when installed with xampp. mysql phpmyadmin xampp share|improve this question asked Jan 16 '12 at 11:47 CodeMinion 3232722 1 Do you have any previous instances of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8879557/xampp-mysql-administration-page-error mySQL running? This shouldn't happen in a XAMPP install normally. –Pekka 웃 Jan 16 '12 at 11:49 I did try installing MySQL by itself before I learned about xampp –CodeMinion Jan 16 '12 at 22:23 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted There is another instance of mysql service running. If you are on windows: Go to local services: You can run services.msc Scroll down till you see mysql, right click and click stop on the context menu that appears. Restart xammp and run phpmyadmin again. share|improve this answer answered Jan 16 '12 at 11:55 Adam 1,301916 Didn't work exactly, but did set me on the right path :) Uninstalled everything and did a clean install of XAMPP. –CodeMinion Jan 16 '12 at 23:32 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. From the cmd window, I run "mysqlshow -u root -p". It asked for a password, then returned this error: "Can't connect to MySQL server access denied for on 'localhost' (10061)" This is a bad indication of partially failed/successful installation. After reading the page, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/windows-troubleshooting.html, it told me to find an error log (.err) in C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data. The directory exists but there is no log file. I have a feeling this is related to the tight security of Windows 7, especially when installing a Unix based software. And yes, I am the Administrator on my PC. Any help or suggestions is appreciated. And I can return a favor by answering Java and SQL query questions. mysql windows windows-7 share|improve this question asked Jun 5 '12 at 6:31 The Original Android 4,01531223 It more sounds like you supply an invalid username/password when trying to connect. –Cyclone Jun 5 '12 at 6:33 well, root as username is supplied by the installation so that should be valid. And I did not set a password for root, at least not yet, for ease of use for now. –The Original Android Jun 5 '12 at 6:43 1 Your are sure
