Mysql Error 1045 Access Denied For User 'root'@'localhost' Windows
'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) Posted by: Shawn Tucker () Date: September 27, 2005 12:40PM I had the same mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed problem, this solution worked for me. You will need to reset the password. First start the mysql server instance or daemon with the --skip-grant-tables option. (security setting) Then Execute error: 'access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: no)' these statements. # mysql -u root mysql mysql> UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('your_new_password') where USER='root'; mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES; Finally, restart the instance/daemon without the --skip-grant-tables option. You should be able to connect with your new password. # mysql -u root -p Enter password: your_new_password Hope this helps. I just rebooted my server and now when I try http://serverfault.com/questions/353278/error-1045-28000-access-denied-for-user-rootlocalhost-using-password-y to connect to mysql I get the following error message mysql -u root -p -h localhost Enter password: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I haven't changed any settings to my knowledge and was able to log in and out until I rebooted my computer. Any advice? I know this same error message has been reported on stackoverflow and serverfault, but in the Q/A's I read they aren't connecting to localhost. mysql share|improve this question edited Jan 25 '12 at 0:17 asked Jan 25 '12 at 0:12 user784637 73252040 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted The procedure is about the same; restart MySQL in safe mode log in with root and no password and perform a password reset. From there do a data integrity check. share|improve this answer answered Jan 25 '12 at 0:25 Tim Brigham 11.6k43470 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Here is the list of steps I followed to solve this problem (from http://24x7servermanagement.com/blog/?p=44) #service mysqld stop or #killal

You can do the following to reset it if you have: /etc/init.d/mysqld stop mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables & mysql -u root mysql> use mysql; mysql> update user set password=PASSWORD("newrootpassword") where User='root'; mysql> flush privileges; mysql> quit /etc/init.d/mysqld stop /etc/init.d/mysqld start Reply With Quote 1 07-12-2009,05:31 PM #3 tpirate5 View Profile View Forum Posts View Forum Threads Newbie Join Date Jul 2009 Posts 16 um let me get back to you on that. Anyway as eeg3 mentioned, try resetting the password otherwise this could be a permissions issue. What are the logs showing? ≈ Fiber
