a minute: Sign up MySQL - ERROR 1045 - Access denied up vote 29 down vote favorite 23 In some way I have managed to get this error when I try to access into MySQL via the command line: [root@localhost ~]# mysql -u root -p Enter password: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I have tried access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password yes) when trying to connect resetting the password without any luck using this HowTo. I have uninstalled mysql completley and reinstalled but I still get asked for a password. I have no idea why this is the case! Can someone please help me get a default install of MySQL. Environment Fedora Core 10, Full Root Access, Apache and PHP installed Thank you for any help!! EDIT To all those that would like to save themselves a few hours of "blood coughing" - when you uninstall MySQl completely delete everything that is left behind. If you don't do this, it will never be a FRESH install. mysql linux passwords mysql-error-1045 share|improve this question edited Jan 8 '10 at 5:28 OMG Ponies 199k37360417 asked Jan 28 '09 at 20:12 Abs 13.3k68208356 2 MySQL error 1045 explained here: webyog.com/faq/content/23/18/en/… –Man_k Aug 6 '12 at 11:01 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 63 down vote accepted If you actually have set a root password and you've just lost/forgotten it: Stop MySQL Restart it manually with the skip-grant-tables option: mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables Now, open a new

You set a root password for your database so from now on you can't access it without password. That is why it reports: Access denied for user 'root@localhost' (using password: no ) Obviously when you give the password with the -p switch you succeed. share|improve this answer answered Jan 7 '14 at 10:47 falconer 9,94721846 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote In simple words your "root" session do not know password to mysql root user. If you want to make easier to access your mysql create .my.cnf in /root/ and put in it [mysqladmin] user = root password = mysqlrootpassword [mysql] user = root password = mysqlrootpassword [mysqldump] user = root password = mysqlrootpassword where offcourse mysqlrootpassword is your password for

Am I missing something? I have tried running it as root, and running it with sudo through another user and cannot get around it. If I offer no password it gives the same error but instead of using password: YES, it's NO. Thanks. 3 comments 0 mikionline20 January 19, 2016 I faced like this error while i want check my database ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'user02'@'localhost' (using password: NO) do you have solution about this 0 CrypticDesigns January 19, 2016 Same solution, just login as root and then change password of the user: update user set password=PASSWORD("YOURPASSWORDHERE") where User='user02'; 0 sergeyvlasov July 3, 2016 Experienced the same problem. You can check the configuration files probably and find the password. If you can't find it, neither root without pass is working you can reset it: Commands sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop Now start up MySQL in safe mode, so you'll skip the privileges table: sudo mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables & Login with root: mysql -uroot And assign the DB that needs to be used: use mysql; Now all you have to do is reset your root password of the MySQL user and restart the MySQL service: update user set passw
