Use the MySQL installer again and don't do anything fancy, just click next, next, next, yes, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfnTSo5XM1A yes, yes. This should install, set up and start MySQL. 2. Open the port using the Windows Firewall. Start > Control Panels > Windows Firewall > Exceptions tab. 3. Click the "Add Port" button: Name: mysql Port: 3306 4. Click the "Add Program" button. Browse to MySQL ( C:/Programs Files/mysql 5.x.x/bin/mysql.exe ) 5. http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?11,39440,62685 If you want, reboot your computer (this is what I did, just in case). 6. Download the the MySQL Administrator program: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/administrator/ or http://mysql.he.net/downloads/administrator/ 7. After unzipping, launch "MySQLAdministrator.exe" directly out of the unzipped directory by double clicking on the MySQL Administrator.exe file. Server host: localhost Username: root Password: whatever Click "OK" 8. Click on the "Startup Variables" item on the left, then the "Security" tab. Check the checkbox for "Disable grant tables." 9. Click the "Service Control" item on the left and then the "Start/Stop Service" tab. 10. Click "Stop Service" -- once the services has stopped, click the button again to start the service. If you've got PHP installed on your system, I recommend using phpMyAdmin to maintain MySQL: http://www.phpmyadmin.net - mike www.wimpyplayer.com . Edited 1 time(s). In the realm of open-source software, the most popular RDBMS is MySQL, at one time owned and supported by Sun Microsystems, and now currently under access denied the purview of Oracle. Figure 1. Check for the latter possibility first, because if MySQL was added to the computer using the standard installer process, then the uninstaller process can stop the service for you. Otherwise, you will need to manually stop the service before uninstalling its underlying files. Go to "Control Panel" > "Administrative Tools" > "Services", which lists alphabetically all of the enabled Windows services, whether they are running (with a Status value of "Started") or not. Figure 2. Windows services with no MySQL Even if no MySQL service is enabled (illustrated in the figure above), it is still possible that a MySQL instance has been installed somewhere on the computer. Check in the places where you usually install applications. In the case of Windows 7, that might include the directories C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86). To be more thorough, search the computer's hard drives in their entirety for any files named mysql.exe — using the native Windows file searching utility or a third-party alternative. If one or more instances of MySQL are discovered, then you should check if any of them are recent enough to serve your current and near-term needs. To learn the version
