I have uninstalled mysql completley and reinstalled but I still get asked for a password. I have no idea why this is the case! Can someone please help me get a default install http://stackoverflow.com/questions/489119/mysql-error-1045-access-denied of MySQL. Environment Fedora Core 10, Full Root Access, Apache and PHP installed Thank you for any help!! EDIT To all those that would like to save themselves a few hours of "blood coughing" - when you uninstall MySQl completely delete everything that is left behind. If you don't do this, it will never be a FRESH install. mysql linux passwords mysql-error-1045 share|improve this question edited Jan 8 '10 at 5:28 OMG Ponies 199k37360417 asked Jan 28 '09 at 20:12 Abs 13.3k68208356 2 MySQL error 1045 explained here: webyog.com/faq/content/23/18/en/… –Man_k Aug 6 '12 at 11:01 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 63 down vote accepted If you actually have set a root password and you've just lost/forgotten it: Stop MySQL Restart it manually with the skip-grant-tables option: mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables Now, open a new terminal window and run the MySQL client: mysql -u root Reset the root password manually with this MySQL command: UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('password') WHERE User='root'; If you are using MySQL 5.7 (check using mysql --version in the Terminal) then the command is: UPDATE mysql.user SET authentication_string=PASSWORD('password') WHERE User='root'; Flush the privileges with this MySQL command: FLUSH PRIVILEGES; From http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-mysql-password.shtml (Maybe this isn't what you need, Abs, but I figure it could be useful for people stumbling across this question in the future) share|improve thi

This is my config settings in config.inc.php $cfg['Servers'][$i]['verbose'] = 'localhost'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['port'] = ''; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] = ''; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysqli'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'root'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPassword'] = true; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPasswordRoot'] = true; When I try to log in via wamp main page, the error shows: 1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) AND this same is when I try to acces MyAdmin by CONSOLE! No matter what I type as password or just press enter, it shows me this same error, and because of that i cant 'flush priviliges'.
