would love the advice of someone who knows what they're doing. After calling "mysql.server start", I try the following: mysqlimport -v --ignore-lines=1 --fields-terminated-by=, --columns='a,b,c' --local -u kevinismus -p testdb /path/to/file.csv but get the error: "mysqlimport: Error: 1045 Access denied for user 'kevinismus'@'localhost' (using password: YES)" The only way I have gotten this command to work is when I call mysql.server start --skip-grant-tables which I would rather not do. I have tried the answer here, I have flushed privileges, restarted the server, and called mysql_upgrade like suggested, all to no avail. It seems I have all privileges available: mysql> select * from mysql.user where User='kevinismus' and Host='localhost'\G Host: localhost User: kevinismus Password: Select_priv: Y Insert_priv: Y Update_priv: Y Delete_priv: Y Create_priv: Y Drop_priv: Y Reload_priv: Y Shutdown_priv: Y Process_priv: Y File_priv: Y Grant_priv: Y References_priv: Y Index_priv: Y Alter_priv: Y Show_db_priv: Y Super_priv: Y Create_tmp_table_priv: Y Lock_tables_priv: Y Execute_priv: Y Repl_slave_priv: Y Repl_client_priv: Y Create_view_priv: Y Show_view_priv: Y Create_routine_priv: Y Alter_routine_priv: Y Create_user_priv: Y E

the mysqlimport command is in the search path, so the full path to the executable is not shown. access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: yes) We are importing data into the customer table in the test database. The basic usage for the mysqlimport command is: mysqlimport -u username -p database /path/to/tablename.txt Note that the file http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32750009/access-denied-when-calling-mysqlimport must be the same as the tablename (and it is case-sensitive) but the extension part of the filename can be whatever you would like it to be. In our examples we would be issuing the following command: mysqlimport -u user -p test customers.txt Incorrect Username and/or Password The first error you might experience when using mysqlimport from the command line is http://www.electrictoolbox.com/article/mysql/mysqlimport-errors/ shown below. In this example we have entered either the username or password incorrectly. The error text shows us we did enter the password (it would say "Using password: NO" if we had not) but does not tell us whether it was the username or password. Make sure you typed both in correctly and try again. Note that usernames and passwords are case sensitive. mysqlimport: Error: Access denied for user: 'user@localhost' (Using password: YES) Insufficient Database Permissions The error message in this example tells you a password was not entered, even though you actually may have entered one. What's really happened is that you don't have the MySQL "file" privileges to be able to load the data in the file into the database. This is a global privilege which must be set before you can use mysqlimport. If you administer the MySQL database yourself it is easy to fix this (another article to be added this week will detail how to add file privileges to MySQL), otherwise you will need to get your hosting provider to make the c

Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO) P: n/a SKB Hi, I am absolutely new to this area. I am getting the following difficulty : Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when I try the mysql command from within the C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin on the command window. Please note that the MySQL is runnging as I have tried the command NET START MySQL and it gives the following output: The requested service has already been started. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182. However when I try the command mysqladmin ping, it gives error as: mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO)' Thereafter giving mySQL at the command prompt gives the error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: N O) Since I am absolutely naive to this area...I am not getting any clues as to what needs to be done...Any pointers will be a lot help!! NOTE that I have first installed the myODBC driver (mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.12-win32_setup.exe) and on top of it I have installed the MySQL mysql-5.0.18-win32_Setup.exe file and without any root passwd(that is I have toggled off the root passwd box).
