This time, however, when attempting to add the network printer to the Windows 2000 computer, we received the following message: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. We tried to do the usual troubleshooting: checked the security settings of the shared printer, checked the sharing settings, made sure that the file and printer sharing was enabled on the Windows 10 laptop, all was in order, yet the Windows 2000 computer was still denied access to the shared printer. After restarting both computers a few times and repeating the sharing/connecting steps, but the same error message appeared every time. So we tried something different, and it worked. We decided to share our solution here, hoping it could be of help to someone else: 1. On the computer to which the printer is connected (in our case it was the Windows 10 laptop), share the printer as usual, and when sharing it, set up the share name that is easy to type in. For example, in our case the long name of the printer was "Epson Stylus Photo R200", but we shared it with the name EpsonR200: 2. Likes Received: 0 I have 2 computers.One runs windows 7,the other has windows 10.The 7 ,I have had for a long time,works great. The 10 I up dated from 8 in November, http://www.windows10forums.com/threads/printer-access-denied.8780/ but have had the computer for about 5 years.Both are Dells. On windows 10 I do not use cortana or edge.I have both computers networked and a Canon Pixma ix6500 printer connected to the windows 7 computer. Have never had a problem printing from windows 10 until 2 days ago. Now it get a box telling me "access is denied". I can click on the printer and am told to enter my name access denied and password. Never had to do that either. I can print from the windows 7 computer that the printer is connected to and can move files from the 7 to the 10 computer but not the other way as I once could.What are my options? Do I need to install the printer on the windows 10 computer? Could the change for needing a password be from an update for windows 10 ?Any help is printer access denied appreciated. I may not have enough information here, but at 86 I really dont know all the inner workings of computers. I have not installed or added anything new to either computer.
