Error Establishing Communication With Psexec Service On
only takes a minute: Sign up PsExec: Win7-to-Win7 Access Denied (psexesvc remains) up vote 3 down vote favorite 2 I have a problem, and the Internet doesn't seem to have a solution, so maybe someone here can help. I'm http://forum.sysinternals.com/psexec-access-is-denied_topic547_page4.html trying to start a command-line prompt on a remote machine using PsExec, but I keep getting an "Access is Denied" error. Both my local and the remote machine are running Windows 7 Enterprise (local: x64, remote x86) and I'm using PsExec 1.98. I use the following command: psexec \\remote -u domain\user -p password -i -d cmd.exe I have also tried other commands (such as using -s, -h, etc.), it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have access to the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18791468/psexec-win7-to-win7-access-denied-psexesvc-remains admin$ share of the remote machine from my local one. The Event Viewer tells me that a logon (and logoff) occurs on the remote machine. Also, PsExec creates the PSEXESVC.EXE in the windows directory, but does not delete it! Interestingly, the same command works just fine on a Win-7-Professional (x64) and it also works perfectly fine in reverse (i.e. when executed from the remote machine to start cmd on the local one). Deactivating anti-virus and firewall on the remote machine did not make a difference. I cannot deactivate it on the local one, but I have my doubts that the error is caused there. Does anyone have any ideas? psexec share|improve this question asked Sep 13 '13 at 16:55 doubleYou 144118 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote Bit late, I know, but I've just been trying to solve this too. Turns out it has to do with security levels / user access levels. I was trying to run psexec from a command prompt on a local PC and had started the command prompt by right clicking and choosing "Run as administrator". Then I'd run the psexec command targetting a remote server and specify a domain admin account for the -u parameter. However, my local account only had administrative privileges on the local machine, not the remote one and choosing "run as administrator" doesn't actually mean "run as domain administrator"! (

The goal is to trip off some fairly simple scripts / programs on one WindowsXP machine from another, and as PowerShell 2 doesn't yet do remoting on XP, PSexec seems like it'll solve my problems nicely. However, I can't get anything but the "Access is Denied" error. Here's what I've tried so far: I've got a pair of WindowsXP MCE machines, networked together in a workgroup without a server or domain controller. I've psexec access denied turned off "simple file sharing" on both machines. Under the security policy, Network Access: Sharing and Security model for local accounts is set to Classic, not Guest for both machines. There is an Administrative user for each computer that I know the passwords to. :) With all that, a command like "> psexec \\otherComputer -u adminUser cmd" prompts for the password (like it should) and then exits with: Couldn't access otherComputer: Access is denied. So, at this point I turn to the community. What step am I missing here? windows pstools remoting share|improve this question edited May 17 '09 at 1:00 asked May 15 '09 at 22:46 Electrons_Ahoy 8462814 Problem solved - turns out it was an empty password issue. This can be done by passing the -h attribute in the psexec command line. So, you would change your command to: psexec -h -u wsadmin -p password cmd For more info, run psexec /?: -h If the target system is Vista or higher, has the process run with the account's elevated token, if available. share|improve this answer answered Jan 28 '13 at 10:12 nhinkle♦ 27k26112155 2 Unfortunately this gives me "Couldn't install PSExec service access is denied" –Tuim Jan 28 '13 at 10:39 Are you also running the initial command from an elevated command prompt, or are you using it as a local run-as? –nhinkle♦ Jan 28 '13 at 11:02 The original com
