Have you done this? HOST [PORT] Transfer a file from/to tftp server Options: -l FILE Local FILE -r FILE Remote FILE -g Get file -p Put file Now with above 2 access violation command when I am trying to send the file but got this error: tftp: server error: (2) Access violation But if I create test.txt (filename that needed to send) in server manually and then try to transfer to server, it uploaded successfully. How can I send the file without manual creation? I am using xinetd service for tftp server. And below is its config file: #/etc/xinetd.d/tftp : service tftp { protocol = udp port = 69 socket_type = dgram wait = yes user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = /tftpboot/ disable = no } Please suggest changes to make it working without creation of a file in server. linux tftp share|improve this question edited Mar 22 at 9:21 runner 134112 asked Apr 6 '15 at 14:44 shah_pankil 1614 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote So this is how I debugged the issue. # tail /var/log/syslog The output of the above command said tftpd was serving files from /srv/tftp but there is no mention of /srv/tftp in /etc/xinetd.d/tftp. Also this post helped to debug the issue: http://toddharris.net/blog/2011/06/19/debugging-xinetd-at-system-launch/. Running xinetd in debug mode did not cause this problem. The culpr
its simplicity and low memory requirements Below the installation steps used on a computer loaded withLinux Mint 14. In the man documentation for tftpdwe see the below paragraph : The use of tftp(1) does not require an account or password on the remote system. Due to the lack of authentication information, tftpd will allow only publicly readable files to be accessed.Files may be written only if they already exist and are publicly writable. Note that this extends the concept of "public" to include all users on all hosts that can be reached through the network; This explains the behavior of the TFTP server, that is : It will upload a file if it only exists and are publicly writable. Some people are trying to load a file without these prerequisites and get an error. They think that this is an issue with the application or a bug in the TFTP version. But it is all written in the documentation. If you need a TFTP server to transfer files to, then use atftp (see my postInstalling TFTP server atftpd in Linux) Install the following packages sudo apt-get install xinetd tftpd tftp Create /etc/xinetd.d/tftp and add the following entry service tftp { protocol = udp port = 69 socket_type = dgram wait = yes user = nobody server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = /tftpboot -s disable = no } Create a directory /tftpboot in root (as per server_args above) in above and change mode and owner sudo mkdir /tftpboot sudo chmod -R 777 /tftpboot sudo chown -R nobody /tftpboot Start the TFTP service sudo service xinetd stop sudo service xinetd start DOWNLOADING from the TFTP server Create a new file under/tftpboot touch /tftpboot/abcd.cfg
