Dave Slade Cardiff When the database is open does the ldb file appear where you expect it to be? Jan 15 '07 #2 reply P: 23 DaveSlade72 When the database is open does the ldb file appear where you expect it to be? Yes it does. Jan 15 '07 #3 reply Expert Mod 10K+ P: 14,534 MMcCarthy Yes it does. When you compact and repair even if the file is locked by another user the database copies itself first and then overwrites itself so it should be creating a copy of itself in the folder even if the file is locked so I don't think this is your problem. You say you copy the file and compact and repair it no problem. Are you doing this in the same folder. What I am wondering is if the problem is more one of write privilages in the folder than the database itself. The only other option I can think of is that there is corruption but this doesn't make sense if you can copy it and its fine. Each user has permissions to read and write to the location of BE, and both FE and BE are set to "shared access". Recently a single already in use user started getting error: 3045 "Could Not Use Database; File Already in Use" while trying to open forms using linked data. The same error appears while trying to re-link the tables using the manager. All other users can still normally work. Tried restarting his workstation, removing local files and re-copying the FE and it didn't work. There is no .ldb file left after all users turn off the FE, compacting after that and restarting the FE of the unlucky user didn't help either. Said user is working on AC2010, but some others are working on AC2007 and AC2003. Please help! edit: BE is stored on Windows Server 2003. ms-access share|improve this question edited Jul 25 '13 at 15:30 asked Jul 25 '13 at 7:41 Faiir 167 1 What kind of machine is the BE on? XP has a limit of 10 connections (incoming). Also, when it happens, have you tested other network connectivity (ping between both machines) to confirm that there is not a network/NIC problem? –TimG Jul 25 '13 at 12:47 I'll check the ping tommorow, although it's probably not the source of the problem (no visible delay nor errors on moving around and copying files to and from the location). –Faiir Jul 25 '13 at 15:35 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 ac
user or instance of Access has already opened up. It may happen when the other user made some modification or changes in the database like editing modules that put the database in exclusive mode or they might open the database in the exclusive mode. Error Message You may encounter this error message while trying to opening the database: Could not use [Database Name]; file already in use. Other causes for this error. However the exclusive mode may not be the case. The error also occurs when user does not created any right to the folder where database is located and tries to open the database or the Microsoft Jet database engine cannot create the locking information file. If there is no right created by user and tries to open the database exclusively or if a corresponding .laccdb file or .ldb file does not exist. Another cause of this error applies on MDB file. A conflict may appear if two instance of MS Access are using different system MDW files where the appeared database to be exclusively locked by other instance. The error also occurs if DAO or another copy of Access may have the database opened by another MDW file. This usually comes from an added instance of a VBA Add-in, of Microsoft Access, MS Access library reference or Add-in, or other program like .NET, VB6 etc. that are connected to the database. Fix MS Access error 3045 In order to fix this error you have to make sure that every instance positioned to the same MDW file. This is most probably defined when you are opening a different database programmatically within your VBA code or you used shortcut to launch the MS Access.
