The error means that another application already has that port bound so that you can't use it. Typically it means that a server is running (or is exiting) but still has the specific port open. Often this error is given when you are trying to shutdown one server and bring up the new version but the first server isn't total down when the new one is started. A good tool to find out which application has the port open is lsof. This should work under most Unixes (Linux) and MacOSX at least. lsof -i :8083 lsof is for LiSting the Open Files on a system but the -i option is for internet addresses: -i [i] This option sele

This application (i2b2) is using Apache Axis 2 web services. The JAX-WS web services are running on port 9090, and are calling our application source code in JBoss http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15486871/two-instances-of-same-application-on-jboss-throws-this-exception-java-lang-exce on port 8083. I made a complete copy of the application code (which includes the Apache Axis 2 extracted war file) to avoid confusion, and changed the port connection for our web services on the second instance from 9090 to 9091 in {jboss folder}\server\default\deploy\jboss-webdeployer\server.xml. I might be going about this the wrong way. I'm not so concerned with running on different ports, I just need to have two instances. So if making a copy of the application compiled source code and switching ports is not the best way to go about this, let me if you have a different idea.

like below arising because of a port already in use:1) java.rmi.server.ExportException: Port already in use: 1098; 2) java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind 3) java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind:8080 4) port 8083 already in use 5) tomcat port already in use and so on…You would most probably get this error when you are attempting to start a server or service. The issue here is that the program/server/service you are trying to start is unable to acquire the port it requires to function. Commonly it occurs for Tomcat, Jboss and other Java based servers. This is due to the fact that some other program/server/service running on that machine is already using that port. It is a bit tedious to chase this culprit using OS commands and most of the times you will end up restarting your computer (some relentless processes wont release the port even after restart, most probably because they run as a startup program when your computer boots). In this tutorial we will see how to use the TCPView utility to easily resolve such port conflicts. You can download this utility from here (unfortunately this works only on Windows). No need to install, you can directly run the exe file. It would look something like this:Steps to resolve port already in use errorStep 1:Sort on the Local Port column, this would help you identify the problematic port easily.Step 2:Once you locate your port, just right click on it, you will see an option “End Process…”. This option kills that process and sets the port free.Try starting the program/server/service now and you should not see an error this time. Please consider following our blog (via Email, Twitter, Facebook and/or Google+ - See the right sidebar) for more interesting posts.Posted in J2EE, WEB | 5 Responses Quickly Java5 responses to "Resolve Port Already in Use Error"Jack September 12, 2012 at 2:58 pm | Permalink | ReplyGreat!
