Anonymous authentication is disabled, basic authentication and windows authentication options are enabled. There is only one rule in 'authorization rules': enable - all users. I've create 2 local users (with passwords set) to test windows authentication on my local web-site. When I try to open web-site with IE 8/9, Chrome (whatever, does not matter) I am asked for the login/password pair. After I enter them three times I get '401.1 - Unathorized' error page. The login/password are correct, I can run any application by 'runas' command with those logins. I've given 'all' permitions to the users for the folder 'C:\inetpub' and all subfolders. I've tried to enable 'url authorization' and added

BUT DON'T DO THIS ON AN INTERNET FACING SERVER, read on.... To fix this properly you should grant the Application Pool Identity for your site Read/Execute or Modify permissions to your application's web folder. To do this: Open IIS Manager, navigate to your website or application folder where the site is deployed to. Open Advanced Settings (it's on the right hand Actions pane). Note down the Application Pool name then close this window Double click on the Authentication icon to open the authentication settings Disable Windows Authentication Right click on Anonymous Authentication and click Edit Choose the Application pool identity radio button the click OK Select the Application Pools node from IIS man
