post what I managed to do to fix it, in case it helps a cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted windows 10 anyone. When I logged in this evening, I had the same error regarding the missing file "d3dx9_31.dll" that so many others cabinet file certificate is valid directx are reporting here. I immediately decided to update my version of Direct X from Microsoft, but then this install then failed, giving the error: "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf8_oaryANA the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid". I spent almost 3 hours trying to solve this, following much of the advice given above and elsewhere, and none of it worked. However, I eventually found a solution on a random forum post after searching the web for help. The problem actually comes down the the latest Direct X "Web Installer" seemingly not working properly. Instead, I http://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq2/index.php?threads/fix-for-the-cabinet-file-error-when-installing-direct-x.496926/ then downloaded the full version of Direct X on to my PC. I got the Direct X here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en Once the file "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe" was on my hard drive, I ran that to unpack it into a temporary directory, and then from that temporary directory, ran the "DXSETUP.exe". This installed DirectX cleanly. After a reboot, it then all worked. )). When I do, it gives me this following error message: "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid." I tried to install directx from their website, still getting the same message. I did some research and followed these instructions, but it did not work either. I'm running on Windows 8.1, and I know that has to do with it but there must be a way for me to install the required directx. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks for your help 12-05-201304:24 PM #2 ipeacefrog Rift Chaser Join Date Aug 2013 Posts 307 . Did you attempt to download the installer from here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=35 . Elldarian - Elusive Assassins - Wolfsbane "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. Did not work. 12-06-201309:16 AM #4 ipeacefrog Rift Chaser Join Date Aug 2013 Posts 307 . Is Cryptographic Services in Services set to Automatic and currently running? By default it should set to Automatically start, but good to check in case it was disabled at some point. When you run the installer do you right click it and "Run as administrator"? Try the full June 2010 installer. Extract it to an empty folder somewhere, then right click DXSETUP.exe and "Run as administrator" - http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...010_redist.exe (Direct link to download, not a webpage) I realized earlier I gave you the link to the web installer not the full extractable file. .
