page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error Jan 31, 2006 02:34 PM|Wheater82|LINK Hi Not sure what section i should post this inbecause in not sure of the exact cause. I'm crating a web application (sql https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/915039 server with an asp.net front end) trying my best to use IIS as the server. I can view application on my own pc only when it comes to others viewing it they receive an error page. "The page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error" I'm guessing that this is error message is displayed for a whole number of reasons as it seems quite vague to me (might be use that i'm not very knowledgeable https://forums.iis.net/t/prev/959636 in this area). Any help would be much appreciated and if more information is needed just give me a shout and I’ll do my best to provide you with it. Thank you Melanie Reply Wheater82 11 Posts Re: The page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error Jan 31, 2006 09:25 PM|Wheater82|LINK Hi all, me again. Thanks Melanie Reply tomkmvp 9756 Posts MVPModerator Re: The page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error Feb 01, 2006 09:53 AM|tomkmvp|LINK It's essentially a networking error - the other client PCs can't reach yours. How are they trying to view it? What URL do they use? Can they ping your machine? Tom Kaminski (former IIS MVP 2002-2010) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Reply Wheater82 11 Posts Re: The page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error Feb 01, 2006 10:05 AM|Wheater82|LINK Hi there, they use http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/DewMountainVR i have dynamic IP address so have to check it to make sure it hasn't changed but even then they still get the same error. No they can't ping my machine. Melanie Reply Wheater82 11 Posts Re: The page cannot be displayed... Cannot find server or DNS Error Feb 01, 2006 10:10 AM

Using IIS, have 2 virtual websites. Default website disabled Admin website disabled "Main site" Port 80 = works fine "WebFOCUS"Port 82 = error below: Cannot find server or cannot find DNS Error Using 'netstat -an |more' I can see the following: TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:82 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING I don't get it why I can see port 80, but not 82. Tried changing port number to 83, 84, etc... no luck. If I create a new virtual website and point to some random port, 882, all is fine, but I don't want to move all my webaliases to the new cannot find server site.... Any ideas? #1 phillydog, Jan 7, 2004 jayR Senior member Joined: Apr 25, 2000 Messages: 644 Likes Received: 0 Where are you seeing "Cannot find server or DNS Error"? Server side or client? Hard to understand why it woud happen on the client. Usually I just get the usuall "Page cannot be displayed". If it is in server logs then you are probable trying to log client host names (instead of just the IP address) and you haven't configured it to point to a dns server. It is trying to do a reverse dns lookup on the IP address to find the name. But if you haven't pointed it to a DNS server it will error out. Just guessing. I am not an IIS guru, though I once fixed a problem that sounds the same on a Lotus Notes server. #2 jayR, Jan 7, 2004 phillydog Senior member Joined: Dec 19, 2001 Messages: 472 Likes Received: 0 Turns out I had an ISAPI filter that was trying to be loaded, but got errors, and crapped out IIS... not sure how it got loaded, but once removed, all seemed fine. #3 phillydog, Jan 20, 2004 (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
