Description ramontemp 2014-08-04 13:55:36 UTC I have a main jsp page that includes 2 jspf files. In the first one I declare a variable which I use on the second one and on error cannot find symbol javac the main file. fileA.jspf: <% String myString = "Hello there"; %> fileB.jspf: <% out.print(myString); %> main.jsp: <%@ include file="WEB-INF/jspf/fileA.jspf" %> <%@ include file="WEB-INF/jspf/fileB.jspf" %> <% out.print(myString); %> Everything compiles without errors and the page works fine on the browser. Netbeans gives me an error on the "myString" variable in the fileB.jspf file, but not on the main.jsp file. The error is: cannot find symbol symbol: variable myString location: class SimplifiedJSPServlet Comment 1 Martin Fousek 2014-08-05 06:50:01 UTC That might be consequence of the bug #122214 fix. I'm going to take a look before next release/patch. Comment 2 Martin Fousek 2014-08-05 07:39:51 UTC I check the functionality inside NB80 where this worked so this can be considered as a regression -> changing priority to P2. We can try to get this into the NB801 patch. Vlado please could you take a look on that once it's possible, thanks a lot! Fixed in web-main #e85c8a87f805. Comment 3 Martin Fousek 2014-08-05 09:04:14 UTC Also preventing NPE in web-main #5ba16f611902. Petre, could you take a look at that. It should be safe now: web-main #e85c8a87f805 and web-main #5ba16f611902 Comment 4 Petr Hejl 2014-08-05 1

When I try to compile the below statement: package userclasses; import java.net.URLEncoder; etc... Other imports. etc... Normal class definition. I get this compile error message: error: cannot find symbol http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21872461/netbeans-7-4-cannot-find-symbol-error-when-importing-java-net-urlencoder import java.net.URLEncoder; symbol: class URLEncoder location: package java.net If I take the import java.net.URLEncoder out of the file then it compiles fine. I have tried clearing the NetBeans cache. The only thing I can think of is that the compiler is searching the wrong java.net library. I am using codenameone libraries and one of them contains a java.net definition with only a few classes in it. I am not sure if this is legal? Seems like that could obscure the JDK's java.net library? However, I completely removed that library from the project and still get the same error, so that discredits my theory a bit, though it could be defined somewhere else that I am unaware of. I am open to any suggestions? BTW does any know which physical library file java.net classes are located in? I was thinking of adding that .jar to my project and placing it first on the classpath (I know that it is included with the JDK by default), that way I would know for sure that the correct java.net w
find symbol" error By radhika on Dec 19, 2007 I have come across this issue many times in the forums. I found in most cases https://blogs.oracle.com/NetBeansSupport/entry/adding_jar_to_classpath the "cannot find symbol" error is mostly due to missing libraries. The first step is always to check if you have the required libraries added to your classpath. To add https://bukkit.org/threads/cannot-find-symbol-compiler-error.56607/ a Jar file, expand your project, right click on the libraries nodes. Select the option to Add Library or Add Jar. You can also do this by right clicking on cannot find the Project node -> Properties.Another tip is to make sure you have checked all your import statements. The NetBeans IDE provides the Fix Import feature. Right click in the java source file to bring up the context sensitive menu and select "Fix Imports". You can also do this using the short cut "CTRL+Shift+I"The section on Managing a Project's Classpath in the cannot find symbol Using NetBeans guide is a very good reference for understanding how to setup your projects classpath. I'm attempting to create a plugin for my own server to mess with my friends. I'm using NetBeans 7.1. I get an error saying it can't find the symbol. Here's the code: (I realize I need to clean it up, rename the package, etc.) Code: /* * To change this template, choose Tools | Templates * and open the template in the editor. */ package ditch; import java.util.logging.Logger; import org.bukkit.command.Command; import org.bukkit.command.CommandSender; import org.bukkit.entity.Player; import org.bukkit.plugin.PluginManager; import org.bukkit.plugin.java.JavaPlugin; /** * * @author Ice_sword */ public class Ditch extends JavaPlugin { public static void main(String[] args) { } static final Logger log = Logger.getLogger("Minecraft"); public Player getEventname(Player other) { return other; } @Override public void onEnable(){ PluginManager pm = this.getServer().getPluginManager(); } @Override public boolean onCommand(CommandSender sender, Command cmd, String label, String[] args) { Player player = null; if (sender instanceof Player) { player = (Player) sender; } if (cmd.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("Q?")) { if (player == null) { sender.sendMessage("Hey look, a bird."); } else { log.info(player.getName() + ": Q?"); sender.sendMessage("Hey look, a bird."); return true; } } else if(cmd.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("ag")){ Player other = (Player) sender; Player target = other.getWorld().getPlayer(args[0]); broadcastMessage("Test...."); return true; } return false; } @Override public void onDisable(){ } } So, the two issues I get are from broadcastMessage, and getPlayer. The errors I get are: cannot find symbol symbol: method getPlayer(java.lang.String) location: interface org.bukkit.World and cannot find symbol symbol: method broadcastMessage(java.lang.String) location: ditch.Ditch It's probably simple, but, I haven't been programing very long... So, what I'm wanting to happen is when someone types "/ag
