Also, try to go to run, choose mmc, on edit choose add/remove snap in and add the single WINS mmc. Then try to access it again, this might help.. 0 Message Author Comment by:WayneKessler2004-06-23 I am trying to access the MMC on the server's console. It does not work from the Manage Server console or from the WINS console that is added to Administrative Tools or from a new MMC. Platform: 2003 SBS SP1 Error: Cannot find the WINS Server The WINS server your specified cannot be located... The error was: Access is denied I get this message when opening up the MMC panel for WINS locally on the domain SBS 2003 PDC. I can access the WINS server remotely from my XP Pro system without problems. I scoured the newsgroups and knowledge bases for this answer. I am signed on as the administrator and have checked that the adminstrator has full control over ...\System32\Wins folder and files. If no one knows what is causing this error, then can someone point me in the right direction for checking all the registery entries and file/folder locations for WINS and what the default permissions should be? Thanks. MrKKnick, Mar 23, 2006 #1 Advertisements Brandy Nee [MSFT] Guest Dear Customer, Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup. I understand that when you trying to open the WINS Console, you encounter "Access Denied" error message. If I have misunderstood your issue, please let me know. Please check if you have correctly set the permissions on the following registry key: a. On the WINS Server, go to Start -> Run "regedit" (without quotation marks). b. Please check the permissions on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServers\winreg subkey as follows Administrators group Full Control, Read Backup Operators group Read Enterprise Admins group Read Local Service account Read (as opposed to Read Control) For more detailed information, please see KB832222 for reference: 832222 You cannot connect to a remote Windows Server 2003 domain controller by using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832222 If the issue persists, please help me to gather following information for further research: 1. When did the issue occur? Did you encounter this issue before? If no, do you make any changes on the WINS S
