Http Error 500.19 Cannot Read Configuration File
error when I browse to localhost. The event id error in event viewer is 2297 and the message is: The worker process for application pool 'Sambar' encountered an error 'Cannot read configuration file ' trying to read global module configuration data from file '\\?\C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config', line number '0'. Worker process startup aborted. Ifeel like I have tried just about everything toget this working including checking my reserved urls via netstat and deleting any cannot read configuration file 0x80070003 with port 80. The Xml in the config fileseems to be validand I can open in IE although I notice when viewing in VStudio some of the xml in system.webserver has squiggles under it. I have been throughMike Volodarsky's articles on troubleshooting the 503 errors and many others besides and still no luck. Ihave Windows Vista Ultimate ( this was an upgrade from the home edition ) and I am wondering if this has something to do with it because I noticed someone elsewith what seemed to be the exact same problem had also upgraded. Unfortunately there was no solution posted there though. I have spent many hours on this and am getting desperate ! - can anybody help Thanks Chris Reply Bret Bentzin... 60 Posts Microsoft Re: Cannot read configuration file - IIS7 - 503 error Mar 14, 2008 05:07 PM|Bret Bentzinger|LINK It sounds like your applicationHost.config may have some invalid characters in it. I am not sure how it would have gotten that way, but I would try and restore the file. Use the following to see your configuration backup history: %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list backup Then restore: %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe restore backup "BackupName" -bretb IIS Critical Problem Resolution Microsoft Corp. I get this when I attempt to browse to the service. I have created a custom application pool that this service will run under btw. So I am guessing that that application ID does http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9100606/cannot-read-configuration-file-due-to-insufficient-permissions not have permissions to access that folder etc... I get this little detail btw... "This error occurs when there is a problem reading the configuration file for the Web server or Web application. In some cases, the event logs may contain more information about what caused this error." I am thinking I need to give that application identity permissions, but I am unsure how to accomplish this. Is there another way to get this done? iis applicationpoolidentity share|improve this question asked Feb 1 '12 at 17:45 DmainEvent 2,9682073140 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 37 down vote accepted Not sure whether this is too late for you. The IIS website is run by either USERS or IIS_IUSRS. Try to do following: from Windows Explorer, right click on the folder pointed by the web, go to security tab, add computername\IIS_IUSRS or computername\USERS with Read permission. share|improve this answer edited Feb 5 '14 at 13:16 Stephen Oberauer 2,74833160 answered Mar 19 '12 at 6:43 Qinjie 6681815 add a comment| up vote 7 down vote 1.Open IIS 2.On left side panel click on application pools 3.And go to its properties and change identity value from "Ap

In updating my Azure references in response of the GuestOS forced updates on 12/09/2013 (that disabled our production cloud) If you're diagnosing why the web-role didn't start for emulating your azure cloud locally, you can check the event viewer, and under Windows Logs -> Application, look for an IIS Express error... I was getting this: The worker process cannot read configuration for application pool '5665782e-ae77-4547-8cc2-3a7b3357602d' encountered an error 'Cannot read configuration file ' trying to read global module configuration data from file '\?\C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\dftmp\Resources\633952fb-10b8-4b96-b732-ad19eb835438\temp\temp\RoleTemp\applicationHost.config', line number '0'. Worker process startup aborted. Turned out, that after updating the azure references using the NuGet package manager, there was duplicated entries for membership provider, role provider, and sessionstate. We aren't using defaults for those attributes, so that may be the cause of the problem... But none the less, check your web.config for duplicate attributes. That is one potential cause of your web-role not stating. azure localhost webrole share|improve this question asked Dec 15 '13 at 4:31 user3101454 342 closed as unclear what you're asking by Flexo♦ Oct 26 '14 at 4:01 Please clarify your specific problem or add additional details to highlight exactly what you need.
