Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up How does the classic http://www.w3schools.com/asp/ado_ref_error.asp asp connection.errors collection actually work? up vote 1 down vote favorite 1 I am trying to confirm how the actual ADODB.Connection.Errors collection should actually work. My interpretation at the moment is that the connection will hold all the errors for the all the procedures that have been executed on that connection. So I should be able to say on error resume next ... code goes here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8718189/how-does-the-classic-asp-connection-errors-collection-actually-work ... 2 or more command objects execute procedures against the database on the same connection if con.Errors <> 0 then loop through all the Errors objects (1 for each procedure that would've been executed on the connection) end if However I have implemented that basic structure and I only get the one error description? So I am looking for someone to confirm that is the case. Does the Errors collection hold more than one error for more than one procedure? Or is if multiple errors occurred for one procedure? I can't seem to find any documentation that would indicate exactly what would happen in this case. Thanks, asp-classic adodb share|improve this question edited Jan 3 '12 at 20:43 asked Jan 3 '12 at 20:29 Kevin Donde 3821723 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted from Errors Collection (ADO) - MSDN: Any operation involving ADO objects can generate one or more provider errors. As each error occurs, one or more Error objects can be placed in the Errors collection of the Connection object. When another ADO operation generates an error, the Errors collection is cleared, and

Other Stuff How To Use On Error Resume Next Often when using ASP or Active Server Pages with VBScript you will find it necessary to check for errors when you do certain things that may fail and then handle it accordingly. Things like opening a database connection or writing to a text file come to mind. Generally if an error is encountered in your .asp file, the processing of your script stops and an error message is returned to the browser. If you want to continue processing your page even if an error is encountered, include the following line at the beginning of your .asp file: <% On Error Resume Next %> That being said just ignoring errors in your code is not a very good idea. What you really want to do is handle the error in some way. The example below opens a database connection and shows you how to trap a potential error and do whatever you want because of it. In this case we are simply displaying the error. <% ConnectionString = "DBQ=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\mysite\data\mydatabase.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" '*** This code checks the ConnectionString info you entered and reports back the error code if it is not ok Err.Clear On Error Resume Next Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") ConnPasswords.Open ConnectionString If Err.Number <> 0 Then Response.Write (Err.Description& "
") Response.Write("This means there is most likely a problem with the" & vbCrLf) Response.Write("""ConnectionString"" info that you specified.
" & vbCrLf) Response.End End If On Error GoTo 0 %> We put the "On Error GoTo 0 at the end because that will essentially end the "on error resume next" That is something you want
