Verify your database connection parameters, and then contact your database administrator for assistance. Cause There are many different potential root causes for this problem. TIP: Search the Technotes for more examples (for example see the KB articles that are mentioned inside 'related documents'). This Technote specifically covers the following potential causes: Scenario #1 - Administrator has chosen the incorrect TCP port By default, Microsoft SQL 2000 cognos testing content manager database connection failed and SQL 2005 'listen' on TCP port 1433. However, each TCP port can only be used simultaneously by one Windows application/service. Therefore, if there is a different application/service using TCP port 1433, then Microsoft SQL may have been configured to listed to a different port. For example, SQL 2000 supports up to 4 separate 'named' instances of SQL. Therefore, as an example, you could have the following 4 separate SQL servers running on the same physical box: sqlservername sqlservername\collation1 sqlservername\collation2 sqlservername\collation3 Each of these separate servers would require a separate TCP port (e.g. 1433, 1434, 1435, 1436). Scenario #2 - SQL server has not been configured to allow SQL logins When Microsoft SQL is installed, the administrator is asked whether they want to allow: (a) ' Windows Authentication only' (the default) (b) or whether it allows 'SQL logins' as well as Windows logons. This is known as ' mixed mode' authentication. Because Cognos Controller uses SQL logins (such as 'fastnet'), we shall need 'mixed mode' enabled. Resolving the problem Scenario #1 - Administrator has chosen the incorrect TCP port Check which TCP port the SQL server is using (e.g. 1434) and enter this value into Cognos Configuration.

Hi, " The Cognos gateway is unable to connect to the Cognos BI server." This will be fixed by restarting cognos server. You can do this through Cognos configuration or services.msc You also have mentioned database connection failed. This happens when database connection password changes, check with your DBA. You can setup Cognos Content Database in Cognos configuration --Data Access --Cognos content store Thank you Dipendra Log in to reply. haripali 270002B5ES
