ASP application connects to MS Access database. IIS is running fine and Asp is running fine. But when ASP code tries to connect to MS-Access DB, its giving 500 error. FilePath http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4863122/asp-80004005-error-on-iis-7-5 C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\XXXXXX\XXXXX_SECTIONS.ASP LineNumber 14 CurrentStatement LevelTop.Open() ErrorCode 80004005 Error is coming exactly while opening connection to MS Access DB. We checked with Process Monitor utility. I have attached the log file of process monitor. We assumed its a permission issue and granted all permissions, but still we are getting same error. We even tried giving administration group user as IIS user. But still getting same issue. [Edit] Ok thanks joel. I am newbie to this environment. I checked this link and installed this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=C06B8369-60DD-4B64-A44B-84B371EDE16D. Most of them complain about a failure called: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]Data source name not found and no default driver specified. I've read on the internet that this could depend on missing rights database engine error given to the user; other sites states that a Temp folder is missing (I can't imagine that this is right)... and there are several other "solutions". Open the rights for everone on the server (as someone stated) is not an option for me. Also it is very painful to give explicit rights to every customer (there are several customers which needs the rights). Do you know an easier solution, or a similar way, or alternative? iis asp-classic odbc oledb share|improve this question edited Nov 5 '13 at 16:09 AnonJr 2,31411736 asked Jan 11 '13 at 14:47 John Brunner 1,20142453 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Your old server has some ODBC DSN (Data Source Names) defined, and this is how your applications are connecting to the databases. You need to define these on your new server. Look in your server's Control Panel. share|improve this answer answered Jan 11 '13 at 22:32 webaware 1,9001226 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote That error is nearly always caused by a bad connection string when an ADODB.connection object has its .open() method called. When you're working with ASP or ASP.NET applications and a Microsoft Access database, you're likely to run into an error like this: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\YourSite\Databases\YourDatabase.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. /YourSite/YourDataAccessPage.asp, line 15 Alternatively, you may get this error instead: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' Operation must use an updateable query. /YourSite/YourDataAccessPage.asp, line 15 Both errors basically mean the same: the account that your Web server is running under does not have the necessary permissions to read from or write to the database. This article will explain the steps you need to perform to fix this problem. First I will explain how you can find out the current account that the Web server is using to connect to the database. In the second part of the article I'll explain how to change the security settings so the Web server can successfully access the database. Prerequisites This article will explain the steps you need to perform on Windows XP Professional. This OS comes with IIS 5.1. as the Web server. For
