Then follow me on Twitter. How Do I Fix ASP 80004005 errors? When you're working with ASP or ASP.NET applications and a Microsoft Access database, you're likely to run into an error like this: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\YourSite\Databases\YourDatabase.mdb'. It is microsoft jet database already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. /YourSite/YourDataAccessPage.asp, line 15 Alternatively, you may get this error instead: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' Operation must use an updateable query. /YourSite/YourDataAccessPage.asp, line 15 Both errors basically mean the same: the account that your Web server is running under does not have the necessary permissions to read from or write to the database. This article will explain the steps you need to perform to fix this problem. First I will explain how you can find out the current account that the Web server is using to connect to the database. In the second part of the article I'll explain how to change the security settings so the Web server can successfully access the database. Prerequisites This article will explain the steps you need to perform on Windows XP Professional. This OS comes with IIS 5.1. as the Web server. For other versions of Windows, like Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003, the steps will roughly be the same, although the screens may look a little different and the account you need to configure may be different as well. The article also assumes that the hard disk where your Web site resides is formatted with NTFS. If you're using FAT or FAT32 this article does not a
- Internal Server Error - ASP errorInternet Information Services Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) Disk or network error. /etrainer/Libraries/DB_header.asp, line 5 OR Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. /etrainer_web/loginprocess.asp, line 35 This issue occurs when users attempt to log into the system (loginprocess.asp) or when a new user attempts to enroll in MicroStrategy eTrainer (newuserProcess.asp). CAUSE: MicroStrategy eTrainer uses a Microsoft Access database to store user information. This database is stored on the web server machine and is accessed via the Microsoft Jet database engine. Jet creates a temporary file when the engine is started. In doing so, Jet first checks the TMP environment variable and uses that path to define where the temporary file is created. If Jet does not see a TMP environment variable, it looks for the TEMP environment variable. If TEMP is not defined, it then uses the Windows folder (\WINDOWS or \WINNT). If TMP/TEMP is defined but points to a nonexistent folder, the error occurs. Moreover, when opening the Access database through IIS or a Windows NT service, and when IIS or the service is running under the local system account, the TMP or TEMP system environment variable is used. When the Web services or Windows NT service are started using a user account, the TMP/TEMP user profile environment variables is used. ACTION: To resolve the issue, define a TMP or TEMP environment variable and assign the variable to an existing folder. When accessing the Access database from IIS, make sure to check the system environment settings rather than environment variables of the logged-on user. Also ensure that the IUSER anonymous IIS account has access to the temporary folder. Users must restart the computer after changing any environment variables. Environment variables are set in a Windows environment by going to the Control Panel and clicking on 'System' and selecting the 'Advanced' tab.
