Microsoft Jet Database Engine Error '80004005' Operation Must Use An Updateable Query.
Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi, We're running Server 2003, and we have a number of websites on our server that are running Access Databases. For some reason, last week,
Error '80004005' Asp
none of the websites/web pages that have an ASP Access connection, are working. We've searched google for answers and all we get are "permission" settings...but for every website? We've checked the settings and they are fine. We've even uninstalled and reinstalled ASP. Here is the error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database the microsoft jet database engine cannot open the file mdb engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. /default.asp , line 9 It points to the same line on every website: rsBio_cmd.ActiveConnection = MM_connMGW_STRING Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks. These are all individual websites in IIS, with their own folders, their own ODBC connection and Databases. That is what is so curious about this. It happened globally on our webserver at the same time to all asp sites...not just to 1 website. Thanks! (Microsoft JET Database Engine) Cause This error usually happens on Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP and may be caused by any of the following conditions: - the database file or database folder doesnt have necessary security permissions to write to, or erase an .ldb file created by Microsoft Access when opening the database - the database file doesn't have sufficient security permissions or write permissions http://support.yessoftware.com/kb_article.asp?article_id=4 to be modified when updating data in it. The web browser is seen by the web server as a Internet User that has the server account IUSR. This user needs to have write permission to the database file and to the database folder. Resolution Follow these steps to resolve this issue: 1. Use Windows Explorer to find the folder on the disk, which contains the database file (.mdb). This is usually your project folder. 2. Right-click on the project folder and select Properties. 3. Uncheck the Read-only property. 4. Click on the Security tab in the properties window. (Attention: If you don't see such tab (Windows XP), close the properties window, open any folder, select Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and uncheck the option Use simple file sharing.) 5. Click Add and find, then select the user IUSR_

Solved ASP Classic “cannot open the file” Microsoft JET Database Engine error database engine '80004005' Posted on 2015-03-16 MS Access ASP Microsoft IIS Web Server 3 Verified Solutions 37 Comments 983 Views Last Modified: 2015-04-02 We have a Microsoft Windows 2003 server with an ASP Classic application on it. The ASP Classic application links to a Microsoft Access database (2002-2003 file format) on the same server. Everything works fine. Also, I can open the Microsoft Access database microsoft jet database with Access 2010 without problem. We have stood up a new Microsoft Windows 2012 server without IIS for the database and moved the Microsoft Access database to the Microsoft Windows 2012 server. When we change the ASP Classic application connection string to point to the new server, strConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=\\NewServer\db$\ApplicationName\data\AccessDatabase_d.mdb; Persist Security Info=false" I receive the following error: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005' The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\\ApplicationName\db$\ApplicationName\data\ AccessDatabase_d.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. /ApplicationName/default.asp, line 1333 The database is not open exclusively and permissions levels are set to “modify” down to the database itself. I cannot touch the server myself, but I think the connection problem may have something to do with the “Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0”. Our network and application guys are at a loss. Several Expert Exchange references talk about changing to a generic driver, But I am not sure of the syntax for the code below.
