Brian Mouncer 2004-03-06 02:08:11 UTC PermalinkRaw Message Are use installing as a different user that is currenty logged only themachine?Do you have a way of checking the logs for the install programs, or MSIsyour installing for error messages?I've seen occations with different setup programs that https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms648755(v=vs.85).aspx if it is not runningas the same user that is currently logged on, then it can't make the DDEconnection to add items to the desktop. The SMS Setup program is an example. If I login to a W2K machine as a domain user, but then use RunAs to startSMSSetup as a different account (domain Admin). Then at http://microsoft.public.sms.swdist.narkive.com/oZx1fjqM/distributed-package-puts-files-on-drive-but-no-shortcut-folder-in-start-menu the end of setup, the SMSSetup.log file will show an error that says"Couldn't connect to DDE, DDE error= 400A".The SMS site server is actualy installed correctly and works, but the smsprogram group in the start menu was not created. If you repeat the experiment using the same account as the logged on user, the program groups get created and no DDE errors occcur.Hi,I've distributed some msi installers with SMS what resulted that allprogram files were put on the harddisk, but no shortcut and folder in theall user/ user startmenu is availlable. It's possible to execute fromWindows Explorer. When i use GPO software distribution, all works well(assigned or published). I guess there must be a problem with rights of theSMS local_system account that is used?Regards,Omar van der HoevenPinkRoccade ITM 1 Reply 3 Views Switch to linear view Disable enhanced parsing Permalink to this page Thread Navigation Carl Sullivan [MSFT] 2004-03-02 17:53:57 UTC Brian Mouncer 2004-03-06 02:08:11 UTC about - legalese Loading...

I am not surewhy the install map error is pointing to \\siteserver\install.map our is located in the sms folder (\\fdlsms4\d$\sms\install.map). Your install sourceshould have theinstall.map file located in E:\SMSBITS\SMS2003Sp3\smssetup
windows. I want to use the Dynamic Data Exchange feature of windows on this toolkit. I have built the Windde Dll by copying the tclWinDde.c file present in tcl8.3.2\Win folder to tcl8.3.2\unix folder. I have ran the tests for Windde. there are around 15 tests out of which 10 tests are passing. some of the tests are failing with the following error. ==== winDde-3.2 DDE execute -async locally FAILED ==== Contents of test case: set a "" dde execute -async TclEval self {set a "foo"} update set a ---- Result was: ---- Result should have been: foo ==== winDde-3.2 FAILED ==== winDde-4.1 DDE execute remotely FAILED ==== Contents of test case: set a "" set child [createChildProcess child] dde execute TclEval child {set a "foo"} dde execute TclEval child {set done 1} set a ==== Test generated error: dde command failed ---- Result should have been: ==== winDde-4.1 FAILED ==== winDde-4.2 DDE execute remotely FAILED ==== Contents of test case: set a "" set child [createChildProcess child] dde execute -async TclEval child {set a "foo"} dde execute TclEval child {set done 1} set a ==== Test generated error: dde command failed ---- Result should have been: ==== winDde-4.2 FAILED ==== winDde-4.3 DDE request locally FAILED ==== Contents of test case: set a "" set child [createChildProcess child] dde execute TclEval child {set a "foo"} set a [dde request TclEval child a] dde execute TclEval child {set done 1} set a ==== Test generated error: dde command failed ---- Result should have been: foo ==== winDde-4.3 FAILED ==== winDde-4.4 DDE eval locally FAILED ==== Contents of test case: set a "" set child [createChildProcess child] set a [dde eval child set a "foo"] dde execute TclEval child {set done 1} set a ==== Test generated error: invalid data returned from server ---- Result should have been: foo ==== winDde-4.4 FAILED windde.test: Total 15 Passed 10 Skipped 0 Failed 5 Can anybody can tell why this "dde command failed" error is coming.
