Cause The modem is unable to establish a dial up connection due to certain conditions. Resolution Is there a modem handshake sound? If not the telephone access number is probably wrong in some way. Disable Area Code and Dialing Properties. If the area code and Dialing properties are set incorrectly, this error may results. For instructions on how to disable them click here. Meaning that the modem itself is not responding properly to Windows. The only thing you can really http://www.iinet.com/support/answer.php?id=64 do here is "reset" your modem. The "No Dial Tone" error could be that the phone cord to the modem is unplugged, or damaged. The other option is that the modem did not disconnect properly that last time you went online. Rebooting the computer will often solve the problem in that case. Error 691 - Authentication issue. The connection is working, but you can not get logged in. This is a Username/Password issue 9 out of 10 times. The last one of these could deal with your account and its status. Clear out the username and password boxes completely (hit backspace & delete a couple times to make sure there are no hidden spaces which count as characters) and retype your username and password. Errors 700 and up This series of errors started in the early Windows NT days, and the one thing about them is that they were more definitive than before. This helped identify the issues faster. But since not many of us have NT, these are rare. But when they show up, they are nice and specific. Error 709 - A sign that the settings are not quite right, and should be completely redone.
