It powers up, which is a nice change from the one it's replacing. But, it keeps popping up an error 122 message. Very annoying. None of the others that are hooked up to the same dish/LNB/switch do this. That, combined with what little I've been able to find on this forum, leads me to believe it's a problem in this particular receiver, and not in any external parts of the setup. Can anyone here confirm or deny that error 122 is indeed only triggered by an internal problem, and most likely means the receiver is defective. Gracias beaucoup. #1 GaryPen, Jan 1, 2011 TheKrellSatelliteGuys God Pub Member / SupporterJoined:Jan 4, 2007Posts:15,281Likes Received:2,287Location:Fairfax, VA I see this detail on the tech portal: Symptom Error 122 Cause This message occurs when the internal Smart Card has an error. informing you of an internal communications failure within your system. But is the error with your TV? Your receiver box? The satellite dish itself? The error is actually tied to http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/error-122-internal-communication-failure.238845/ an unauthorized Smart Card. What Error 122 Says The complete message for Error 122 reads: "An internal communication failure has been detected. Press 'Select' on your remote control to reset your receiver. If this problem reoccurs, please call DISH Network (1-800-333-3474) for assistance." The reference to the receiver in this message refers to the receiver box that is connected to your http://www.ehow.com/info_12172602_dish-network-error-122.html TV. While resetting the receiver gets rid of the error message temporarily, it won't fix the issue permanently. What Error 122 Doesn't Say What makes this error message so difficult to understand -- and ultimately, to fix -- is what it doesn't say. Error 122 is actually tied to an issue with the Smart Card inserted into your DISH Network receiver. Although all DISH Network receivers have a Smart Card slot, not all receivers come with a Smart Card. DISH Network sends Smart Cards intermittently to customers to install new software and update other technology on the receiver without having to replace it. Troubleshooting If resetting your receiver -- by turning it off and unplugging it for at least 10 to 15 seconds -- doesn't work, try removing the Smart Card from the slot on the front of your receiver and gently wiping off any dirt or debris using a soft cloth before reinserting it. If the problem persists, there are two likely causes. The first is a mix-up within DISH Network's account information; this happens when the Smar

Actually, that's all it has been doing all day long - rebooting. It would come up searching for satellite signal - 5 steps. Then display "internal http://support.bell.ca/TV/Receivers/My_TV_is_showing_Error_122 communication error" #122. Contacted Dish Network and they'll be shipping a new one, but will take 7 to 10 days to ship. Anything else we may need to look into dish network until then? I did check all the connections outside right up to the LNB. Also disconnected all conections from the DVR along with the power plug for several hours and reconnected everything. Still goes to a continuous rebooting loop. rolleyes Weathermann, Jan 23, 2010 #1 Weathermann Private First Class Re: VIP-722 DVR Reciever It's model number is VIP-722. Had dish network error it unplugged for three days. Plugged it in today and it's working again. Beginning to think maybe it locked up do to heavy static build-up. DirecTV satellite receivers use to be notorious locking up do to excessive static build-up. That's why we had our system attached to a copper clad 30 foot grounding rod. Never had a problem since. But the Service Tech that installed our Dish Network satellite receiver (VIP-722 DVR) disconnected the ground wire from the 30 foot grounding rod and attached it the undercarage of our single wide mobile home. That portion of the home isn't attached to ANY earth ground. So what good is it doing that? :confused Weathermann, Jan 26, 2010 #2 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)
