If you're successful, the drive can be ruled out as the cause of the CRC error, leaving the disc as the culprit. The disc could be scratched or damaged, or it could've dvd fab had copy protection against duplication written into it when it was burned. If the optical drive fails to read other discs, then there is likely some problem with the drive itself.Step 2Rule out the surface quality of the disc to be backed up. Even if it looks fine, check to make sure it plays or reads normally outside of DVD Shrink. The DVD could have been incorrectly burned. This happens often with cheaper CD and DVD media; it is rather rare with commercial DVDs. If you can rule out the surface quality of the DVD as a cause for the error, go to step 4. If not, see step 3 for information on attempting to clean the disc.Step 3Clean the faulty disc. It is possible for any amount of scratching, grime or residue to cause read errors. Use a disc cleaning kit, or use water or alcohol and a piece of cotton shirt. Make sure that you wipe against the tracks and not with them; wiping with the tracks can cause further damage.Step 4Having determined that the cause of the error lies in neither the drive nor the disc itself, there remains only one possibility: the cause of the error is the disc's encryption, or copy protectio

Theres not much that can be done. Quote: P.S I do have NERO 6 so perhaps can try with that, but don't know where to start, THOUGHT that Shrink was the best program to do that. If your just doing a straight copy with no copy protection from one DVD to another, try Nero. Shrink is only necessary for compressing DVD9 to DVD5. __________________ AMD 64 4400+ X2 'Toledo' @ 2.6Ghz DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert 2x 1024Mb DDR OCZ PC4000 Gold 2x Sparkle 7800GTX 256Mb DDR3 in SLI (513/1280) 2x Arctic NV Silencer 5 rev 3 120G Seagate SATA 250G Seagate SATA Benq DW1640 Swiftech Extreme Liquid Cooling Kit 24" Dell LCD Microsoft Vista Ultimate RTM v6 build 6000 04-02-2005 #3 JSD New on Forum Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 6 Re: DVD SHRINK PROBLEM: "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" Try copying DVD to HDD with AnyDVD. Decryption problems/new copy protections Since development http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=153079 of DVD Shrink has been stopped in 2005 it cannot circumvent current copy protections schemes which may manifest in these errors/error messages: Movie playback starts in between or at the end and/or chapters do not playback in order Invalid File Structure Invalid Navigation Structure Out of memory Programming error - Exception occurred Parameter dvd shrink Incorrect Data Redundancy Check Error (CRC Error) The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error To remove such protections do a complete backup of such media to your HDD with (use Google): DVDFab HD Decrypter (free trial) AnyDVD (free trial) and then use Shrink to encode it as usual. Problems with Nero First of all DVD Shrink is a transcoder to shrink dvd shrink cyclic movie DVDs, using the Nero engine for automatic burning is just a bonus. Having said that, DVD Shrink works under Vista but Nero only from version 7.x and higher. If you insist on using bloatware but can't get it to work, uninstall both Shrink and Nero and reinstall (not just copy over exes!) Nero before DVD Shrink. After that make sure that Edit > Preferences > File I/O > Enable burning with Nero is checked. If that still doesn't work as well as nothing on this list use free Imgburn which is an advancement of the DVD Decrypter burning engine and uses the same command set. Therefore if want to keep automatic burning and have DVD Decrypter installed on your machine you can copy over 'ImgBurn.exe' and rename it to 'DVDDecrypter.exe' so Shrink uses it with 'ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter' selected as your backup target. Alternatively use the hacked DVD Shrink with ImgBurn. Of course you can also simply output to ISOs and manually add them to ImgBurn's queue. In case your HDD is still formatted with FAT32 instead of NTFS, DVD Shrink will bypass the 4 GB filesize limit automatically b

Several movies pop up with "data cyclic redundancy error" when trying to rip with DVDshrink. Some other movies, just don't even pull up the files at all. Then there is some where it pulls up a huge list under "main movies" but none of them work or will rip. I don't know what to do to get them to rip. I've tried DVD Decrypter, but it just keeps popping up an I/O error saying "unrecovered read error". I've even tried DVD43 in conjuction with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, with no luck. What solution would you recommend that will actually work? Koby View Public Profile Visit Koby's homepage! Although each of the programs you've mentioned continue to prove to be useful/usable with many DVDs, they are fairly old and as a consequence, there are many DVDs these programs CANNOT properly process. Try (freeware version) DVDFabHD Decrypter (Yes, it works with standard DVDs) setarip_old View Public Profile Find More Posts by setarip_old 28th February 2010, 10:57 #4 |Link Koby Registered User Join Date: Feb 2010 Posts: 10 I tried DVDFabHD, and all it did was sit there saying opening video, but it neve
