and compress. When I try to open the file in DVD Shrink, I get an error message saying: DVD Shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read file "D:\" Usually, I would think this was due to a dirty or scratched disc or maybe my DVD drive is dirty, but I have tried it in the same old DVD drive and also in my brand new external burner. Has anybody dvd shrink stopped working windows 7 else had this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. xtender67, Mar 3, 2007 #1 binkie7 Moderator Staff Member Joined: Feb 12, 2005 Messages: 18,494 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 96 There's a few out there that have the newer Sony protection like this one that Shrink and AnyDVD won't work on. You can do movie only w/ Recode and AnyDVD. Try CloneDVD - AnyDVD companion - not free but has a 21 day free trial. Rip w/ DVDFab Decrypter (free) 1st then open those files in Shrink. link Or RipIt4Me - which uses all free programs like Shrink, Decrypter and FixVTS. link The above ways will work w/ this one. binkie7, Mar 3, 2007 #2 swk Member Joined: Mar 5, 2007 Messages: 4 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 This is soooo ironic, it's spooky. I am also an experienced user of DVD Shrink, Decrypter, and am currently running AnyDVD version 6.1.3.0. Have been backing up happily until today when I was backing up the EXACT movie, listed by xtender67 "Stranger Than Fiction". Also today, I have received this error message on another movie "Zoom: Academy for Superheroes" as well... Not a Sony picture. First time I've seen this error code while using Shrink. ------------------------------------------- So, to clarify, I'm receiving error c

So I backed up the files using DVD Decrypter, it backed up files totalling 7.37GB. It worked fine. Now, http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/216275-DVD-Shrink-Problem-Copy-Protection-Error I go back into DVD shrink to shrink files to fit on a DVD disc. I select "Open Files", look for the folder where the VOB files etc are and click open. An error comes up saying that, "DVD shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to open the file. The system cannot find the file specified" Firstly, why is this happening? How can I shrink the files to fit onto a 4.7GB disk. I have tried a different source dvd using dvd shrink and it is fine, it just happens with one particular dvd. It's not a Black and White world, to be alive the colours must swirl. And I believe that maybe today, we would all get to appreciate.... Decryption problems/new copy protections Since development of DVD Shrink has been stopped in 2005 it cannot circumvent current copy protections schemes which may manifest in these errors/error messages: Movie playback starts in between or at the end and/or chapters do not playback in order Invalid File Structure Invalid Navigation Structure Out of memory Programming error - Exception occurred Parameter Incorrect Data Redundancy Check Error (CRC Error) The dvd shrink request could not be performed because of an I/O device error To remove such protections do a complete backup of such media to your HDD with (use Google): DVDFab HD Decrypter (free trial) AnyDVD (free trial) and then use Shrink to encode it as usual. Problems with Nero First of all DVD Shrink is a transcoder to shrink movie DVDs, using the Nero engine for automatic burning is just a dvd shrink alternative bonus. Having said that, DVD Shrink works under Vista but Nero only from version 7.x and higher. If you insist on using bloatware but can't get it to work, uninstall both Shrink and Nero and reinstall (not just copy over exes!) Nero before DVD Shrink. After that make sure that Edit > Preferences > File I/O > Enable burning with Nero is checked. If that still doesn't work as well as nothing on this list use free Imgburn which is an advancement of the DVD Decrypter burning engine and uses the same command set. Therefore if want to keep automatic burning and have DVD Decrypter installed on your machine you can copy over 'ImgBurn.exe' and rename it to 'DVDDecrypter.exe' so Shrink uses it with 'ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter' selected as your backup target. Alternatively use the hacked DVD Shrink with ImgBurn. Of course you can also simply output to ISOs and manually add them to ImgBurn's queue. In case your HDD is still formatted with FAT32 instead of NTFS, DVD Shrink will bypass the 4 GB filesize limit automatically by outputting to multipart ISO (.i00, .i01, .i02, .mds) which mds can be burned with ImgBurn. Batch encoding/autoplay/command line Aparently DVD Shrink does not support
