cleaned dvd & dvd drives - no luck, even tried something called claddvd to get past it, nothing, my question is are there dvds that can be ripped, I dont think this is a bad disc since I can play or maybe I'm wrong - help? weehawk, Nov 8, 2004 #1 ScubaPete Senior member Joined: Mar 13, 2003 Messages: 6,324 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 116 Hi weehawk, dvd shrink 3.2 error welcome to aD, A "CRC" error is most often caused by bad media - it could be any of the following: 1. A dirty disc, 2. A scratched disc 3. A poor quality disc (cheap media if it happens during the "Burn" section of your work) 4. A bad disc from the Mfgr. It can also be from a bad optical component in your drive. At this time I don't believe it's your drive at all. If you recently purchased this disc new from a store, I would return it as defective if just cleaning and the proper use of DVD Decrypter doesn't get the job done. I'd like you to check your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.1.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO Read Mode", "tick" "Remove PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This is an excellent setting

The error message I'm getting is Failed to read file E / Data error cyclic redundancy check. Before I was dvd shrink burning through Drive C with no problems now it will not complete the analysis process. I need to know how to get back to burning or analysing through drive C. When I try to open file C, it says file can not be opened/found. Sep 23, 2009 #1 strategic TechSpot Paladin Posts: 1,020 "cyclic redundancy check" usually is caused from bad media. HAve you tried a different disc? Maybe the lens on your reader is dirty, have you tried dvd shrink error running a cleaning disc in the dvd burner? Sep 23, 2009 #2 SNGX1275 TS Forces Special Posts: 10,689 +395 That will happen on some disks even if they are perfect, I always attributed it to a form of copy protection dvdshrink can't deal with. Try and rip it with dvddecrypter first, to a folder, then point dvdshrink to the folder. This of course assumes you own the disk.. Sep 24, 2009 #3 captaincranky TechSpot Addict Posts: 11,438 +1,756 Copy protection strategy is updated almost monthly. As a result, neither DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter are able to cope with many current discs. While as SNGX1275 suggests, DVD Decrypter is more potent than DVD Shink, it isn't the answer to issues with many recent discs, and some "failed to read" errors will also be observed when using it. However, DVD Decrypter also possesses the ability to rip a DVD in ISO mode, which comes in handy from time to time. Sep 24, 2009 #4 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read the file "D:\" Data error (cyclic redundancy check). I guess these few DVD's just have some extra security features that jam up the ripping process! Anyone familiar w/ this problem??? Disney movies seem to always do this. At the moment I was trying to rip Twilight (which I rented for my girlfriend), and it gave me that same error message. ^ 64k06-03-2010, 04:34 PMTwilight! well thats why it error'd the PC has better taste than your misses. WoodyXP06-03-2010, 04:40 PMThat error translates into 'Buy your own DVDs, cheapass!!'. Chilly Willy06-03-2010, 07:10 PMThat error translates into 'Buy your own DVDs, cheapass!!'. You're making unwarranted assumptions. I ALWAYS immediately rip my DVDs and BluRays so that I can play them on the computer and skip the damn commercials. If I want commercials, I'll watch public TV. If you have kids, it's even more imperative that you rip your DVDs and BluRays - the kids WILL destroy any disc you let them play within a few days. One time, I found the damn disc ON THE EFFIN ROOF!!! evildragon06-03-2010, 07:13 PMI usually use DVDFab to get around what DVD Shrink doesn't get.. Then if fab can't do it, there's another utility, but I don't like it and forget the name. It's on my laptop and I can check though. Sparksterz06-03-2010, 07:21 PMIf it had a crc error it's usually the case that the media is bad. In this case I'm guessing it may be scratched? evildragon06-03-2010, 07:25 PMIf it had a crc error it's usually the case that the media is bad. In this case I'm guessing it may be scratched? Normally yes. But I've seen some recent DVD's with improper filesystems, as it shows the DVD as like 90GB in size or something like that, which is impossible. MN12BIRD06-03-2010, 07:56 PMDVD Shrink only has basic (and out dated) DVD decryption built in. Any modern DVD should cause it to halt. You need a separate decrypter like AnyDVD to get around it. AnyDVD will run in the background in between your DVD Drive and software like DVD Shrink. Then as far as DVD Shrink is concerned there is no encryption on the DVD it's ripping. AnyDVD also works with HD-DVD and Bluray and it will not only get rid of any encryption/CRC errors it also gets around region coding and macro-vision. Since it runs in the background it works with pretty much any DVD ripping software. This will solve the issue. Chilly Willy06-03-2010, 08:22 PMWhile AnyDVD works with DVD or HD, they are separate licenses and have separate fees. If you only get AnyDVD and not AnyDVDHD, HD
