Driver]Communication link failure" error when "Auto-generated SQL" is used in ODBC Connector and ODBC Enterprise stages. Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) DataStage job fails with "[IBM(DataDirect OEM)][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21615944 failure" error when "Auto-generated SQL" is used in ODBC Connector and ODBC Enterprise stages to extract data from SQL server database. IIS-CONN-ODBC-00004 ODBC function "SQLEndTran(SQL_ROLLBACK)" reported: SQLSTATE = 08S01: Native Error Code = 0: Msg = [IBM(DataDirect OEM)][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure (CC_OdbcConnection::rollback, file CC_OdbcConnection.cpp, line 1040) IIS-DSEE-TDOD-00007 main_program: [IBM(DataDirect OEM)][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure Cause - ODBC driver waits for 15 seconds for a error 0 connection to be established before returning control to the application and generating a timeout error, by default LoginTimeout is set to 15 seconds and the DataStage job fails when ODBC driver to SQL server times out. - Once ODBC driver establishes connection to database SQL query does not time out because by default driver QueryTimeout is set to 0, but the driver responds to the SQL_ATTR_QUERY_TIMEOUT attribute 0 sqlstate 08s01 on the SQLSetStmtAttr() function when query whose execution exceeds an interval set by the application and will result in SQLSTATE 01S02 (Communication link failure) error. Resolving the problem To resolve "Communication link failure" issue in DataStage job, add below two parameters to ODBC driver in ODBC configuration file .odbc.ini under $DSHOME path. LoginTimeout=-1 QueryTimeout=-1 About Login Timeout Attribute LoginTimeout (LT) Description The number of seconds the driver waits for a connection to be established before returning control to the application and generating a timeout error. To override the value that is set by this connection option for an individual statement, set a different value in the SQL_ATTR_LOGIN_TIMEOUT statement attribute. Valid Values -1 | 0 | x where x is a positive integer that specifies a number of seconds. If set to -1, the connection request does not time out. The driver silently ignores the SQL_ATTR_LOGIN_TIMEOUT attribute on the SQLSetConnectAttr() function. If set to 0, the connection request does not time out, but the driver responds to the SQL_ATTR_LOGIN_TIMEOUT attribute on the SQLSetConnectAttr() function. If set to x, the connection request times out after the specified number of seconds unless the application overrides this setting with the SQL_ATTR_LOGIN_TIMEOUT attribute on the
