_hours_ on this so just wanted to share some of my observations to save you some time. Incidentally Win XP Service cannot create windows service for mysql error 0 windows 8 Pack 2 installing MySQL 5.1.31 MSI. Seems like the non msi MySQL 4.1 installer doesn't have this problem. MY SOLUTION (Take UNLOADS and BACKUPS of data files/dirs if you need to. This is a full re-install) could not start the service mysql while installing My solution was to get rid of all the profile application data. So ensure that you - uninstall the instance (including server) using instance configuration wizard, (in C:\Program Files\MySQL\My SQL Server 5.1\bin\MySQLInstanceConfig.exe), choosing remove. - now remove MySQL via Control Panel->add/remove programs, may need to F5 refresh list if not there. - make sure MySQL dir in C:\Program Files is now deleted in its entirety. There may be old Data files

lying around. - *most importantly*, make sure that any MySQL dir in the following dirs are deleted. Mine weren't hidden but worth checking that too: = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data = C:\Documents and Settings\

after clicking the "Execute" button in the "MySQL Server Instance Configuration" wizard. First of all, I did not accept the default installation path. I selected a http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?11,19373,246717 path on a different partition containing more available space. The "path" variable was set correctly, but when I opened the Services dialog, the path to "mysqld-nt.exe" was set incorrectly to a path on the C: drive. I changed it the registry and the MySQL service was then able to start, but I still get https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=37641 the error indicated with a red "x" in the "Start service" listing. How to repeat: 1. Launch the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard and click "Next". 2. Accept the default "Detailed Configuration" option and click "Next". 3. Accept the default "Developer Machine" option and click "Next". 4. Accept the default "Multifunctional Database" option and click "Next". 5. Select a different drive partition for the InnoDB tablespace installation path and click "Next". 6. Accept the default "Decision Support (DSS)/OLAP option and click "Next". 7. Select "Enable TCP/IP Networking" and "Enable Strict Mode", then click "Next". 8. Accept the default "Standard Character Set" option and click "Next". 9. Select to "Install As Window Service", "Launch the MySQL Server automatically" and "Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH" options, then click "Next". 10. Enter and retype the root password, do not create an anonymous account, then click "Next". 11. Click "Execute" and note the failure at "Start service". [26 Jun 2008 4:49

Error 0 is often ERROR_SUCESS ( == No error ) Perhaps the service is already existing, that's why you get an error 0 (ok), but message says it can't create it since it's already exists... I have stopped and deleted the service before and it appears this is as far as it gets in the install. That is, the mysql service gets partially created, since it appears in the list again after the install, but but it never gets completed, and started. cearlp, Nov 17, 2012 #3 fluke78 Joined: Nov 16, 2012 Messages: 6 Likes Received: 1 Location: Norway cearlp said: There is a service mysql listed as being Start up Type Automatic but it's blank under Status.
