We find "Error 0" commonly occurs when there is a previous installation of MySQL on a Windows machine, or even hidden file remnants of an earlier MySQL installation. It is easy to conclude that a previous installation of MySQL has been completely expunged from your system, but one has to maniacally hunt down

and extirpate all old configuration and data files before the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard will install a new MySQL database and start the Windows MySQL service. We recommend that you try the these steps if you see this error. One user found that the following worked. We suggest trying this first. 1. Cancel the configuration step. (If you haven't already). 2. Go back to the configuration wizard on the program list (newly installed.) Follow the "reconfigure" option. 3. Uncheck the "modify security settings" box and reconfigure without changing the password. Make sure the password is blank. 4. When you click "finish" on the final screen, the service fails to start. Click "cancel" and restart the configuration wizard. Reconfigure in the same way as before, but check the "modify" security settings" box and leave the "current password" field blank and fill in and confirm a new password. This time the service starts, security settings are applied, and MySQL works… hopefully. In house, we found the following was successful. 1. Cancel the configuration step. (If you haven't already.) 2. Start up the configuration wizard. Delete the previous instance. This will close the c

On running the SETUP.EXE, the installation program fails with the error: "The service could not be started. Error: 0". Tried following the steps as documented over here and in other places, but it still http://specifyx.specifysoftware.org/i-get-this-error-when-trying-to-install-mysql-error0-cannot-create-windows-service-for-mysql/ does not work. But, when I tried running the following commands from the command prompt (as explained in the my.ini file), there was absolutely no problem: 1. mysqld --install MySQLXY --defaults-file="C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\my.ini" 2. mysqld --defaults-file="C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\my.ini" 3. net start MySQLXY However, when I went to the Services section on My Computer, I found that MySQL and MySQLXY services, both not running at all. https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=27796 Tried starting them too, but this too did not solve the problem. Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance, MANOJ KUMAR SHARMA. How to repeat: Download the mysql-5.0.37-win32.zip file, and install the same on a Windows XP Professional machine, running with SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio .NET 2005. [13 Apr 2007 1:29] Miguel Solorzano Thank you for the bug report. Could you please open a DOS prompt and go to the MySQL bin\ directory and issue the below command: mysqld --defaults-file="C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\my.ini" --standalone --console and paste here the messages/errors printed. Thanks in advance. [16 Apr 2007 1:37] Manoj Sharma Hi Miguel Thanks for contacting me back. I have resolved my problem on my own. I first of all used the configuration tool to remove the database. Then, went to add/remove programs and removed mysql. After which I restarted my computer. Then went to the C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0 folder and deleted it. I also deleted the parent folder too. After which I went to the folder where I had downloaded your installation files, and deleted the same. Next I rebooted my computer once again, so that all traces or references would be cleared. And then I re
5.1. Despite endlessly googling them internets and browsing through the MySQL documentation, the solution was nowhere to be found. Fortunately for you, I found the ultimate fix to this problem in 8 easy steps! Huzzah! This fix is aimed at Windows Vista users, although it should https://schalbroeck.wordpress.com/2009/04/22/mysql-installation-could-not-start-the-service-mysql/ be pretty much the same for XP/2000. PROBLEM: The error "could not start the service mysql" pops up the moment you try to re-install MySQL server. The reason why you're getting this error is because there are still traces of the previous installation left on your computer, that are not removed during uninstall. SOLUTION: STEP 1 - If you still have MySQL installed, go to the MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard and choose remove instance. After that, go to Programs and features in error 0 the control panel, and uninstall MySQL server. STEP 2 - Now find the MySQL directory in your installation directory (e.g. c:\program files) and delete it. STEP 3 - Bring up a command prompt (press windowskey + r and type cmd.exe (enter)) and insert the following command: "sc delete mysql" without the brackets. After executing it should say that the service has been removed from the system. STEP 4 - Press windowskey + r and enter "%appdata%" without the brackets. Now find the cannot create windows MySQL folder and delete it. STEP 5 - Press windowskey + r again, enter "%programdata% and delete the other MySQL folder. STEP 6 - Open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services, here you'll find a MySQL registry key (see screenshot), delete it. Do a search for all MySQL entries (press F3) and kill them. MySQL key in regedit (click to enlarge) STEP 7 - Now for the last step, you should search your system for any leftover MySQL directories, or "my.ini" files, and delete them. STEP 8 - Now reinstall MySQL server, I recommend installing it in a different directory than the previous installation. That's it! Your new MySQL installation should be up and running now! I was like *uff*. Ran services.msc and saw that MySQL process actually works. Re-run mysql instance config wizard and in the end it ticked "start service" succesfully🙂 posted August 12, 2009 at 2:41 pm by Jānis Veinbergs Reply Thanks for the advice -- this exact problem has been bugging me all afternoon posted August 21, 2009 at 4:24 pm by Mike Armstrong Reply keywords: mysql vista start service cannot b
