Microsoft Office > Office 2010 - IT Pro General Discussions Question 0 Sign in to vote I tried to install Office 2010 Professional x86 on Windows 7 Ultimate x86. It failed with this error: Error 1013. Setup cannot acess the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\EQUATION. Verify that the folder exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it. I tried dozens of times to take ownership of the folder, with no success for a very long time. I finally got it to work, and now I'm getting a very generic error. It says that Office 2010 has encountered an error during setup, but it doesn't specify what error. There's not even a code. I created a new administrator account, and it gets the first error again. I also cannot access (or take ownership of) the EQUATION folder from that account. Does anyone know how to fix this error? What is the EQUATION folder, anyway? Also, I understand locked-down folders, but why are there folders that give an Access Denied error when you try to take ownership of them? Thanks! -Lou Monday, September 13, 2010 10:17 PM Reply | Quote Answers 1 Sign in to vote Hi, No permission to access this file. Take ownership of the related file ============= 1. In the "Start" menu, locate "Command Prompt". Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator". Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Note 2: In Windows XP, click Start > Run, type cmd and press Enter. 2. Type the following commands, then press "Enter" to execute them one by one. Please note the space before the command and its parameter. takeown /f

The first solution was to try and change permissions on the 1033 folder. That was unsuccessful and gave an "Access Denied". But I was able to get a solution that worked.
