There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". This occurs at the point where the installer says "Status: Extracting Installer". I tried both the 32- and 64-bit versions for both the 6U21 and 6u22 distributions (4 in total) and they https://community.oracle.com/thread/1596153 all fail exactly the same way. I tried several suggested solutions that I found on the Oracle site and elsewhere on the Internet. These include making sure there are no illegal characters in the path, de-installing then re-installing after the failure (There was nothing to de-install, since it failed, but I deleted the incomplete install directory). I tried installing to (and from) different drives and different path names (such as a path with no spaces). I also disabled anything using the JRE and finally I de-installed the JRE as well and I still get the same error. I was able to re-install the JRE with no problems. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Here is the contents of the installation log (slightly reformated for readability): Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action unziptools, location: D:\apps\Java\jdk1.6.0_22\zipper.exe, command: "D:\apps\Java\jdk1.6.0_22\\tools.zip" "D:\apps\Java\jdk1.6.0_22\" "" === Logging stopped: 10/13/2010 10:52:16 === The problem might be that the installer seems to be appending a second backslash to the path to generate the zipper.exe comma
the following failure in the Event Viewer under application: 1722 - There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. https://sccmfaq.wordpress.com/2014/12/20/deploy-java-8-update-25-error-1722/ A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. With a little modification in the MSI file (of course in the MST) and a http://superuser.com/questions/911939/oracle-jre-7-and-8-both-will-not-install-on-previously-javaless-win7 file copy before deployment it will run. Here are the steps to fix the problem: Download the current runtime from the Oracle Website in the OFFLINE version: link error 1722 Extract the MSI from the “jre-8u25-windows-i586.exe” or “jre-8u25-windows-x64.exe” by starting the installation. When the first screen appears, you will find the extracted MSI file (jre1.8.0_25.msi) in the folder“%LOCALAPPDATA%Low\Sun\Java\jre1.8.0_25”or “%LOCALAPPDATA%Low\Sun\Java\jre1.8.0_25_x64” if extracting the x64 Java Runtime. Copy the MSI to another folder like C:\data Cancel the Java setup. Open the MSI with ORCA or an MSI Editing tool error 1722 windows and create a MST File and change the following settings: Open the table “CustomAction” and select the row “installexe”. Change the value in the field “Type” to 3074 (or Hex 0x0C02). This will set the NoImpersonate bit. My additional PROPERTIES in the MST file are the following: AUTO_UPDATE=0AUTOUPDATECHECK=0JU=0JAVAUPDATE=0EULA=0SPONSORS=0WEB_JAVA_SECURITY_LEVEL=HWEB_ANALYTICS=0 I know, not all Update Fields are needed, but like this I am sure, that Java is not updating automatically . SAVE the MST File Unfortunately this is not enough. Now you’ll have another error: “Unable to install Java. Unable to open file C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\java.settings.cfg” To solve this, you’ve to create the missing file BEFORE running the installation. You can add this to the MST File or copy it before running the main installation with a batch file or similar. Create a blank file named “java.settings.cfg” and copy it to “%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Oracle\Java”. The file can stay blank, because our install options are in the MSI / MST File. Good luck and hope it will work also in your environment! cuChris Shar

I have a Win7 x64 Pro box with no Java environment, running as an admin user. I'm trying to install JRE8u45, but every time I try, the installer progresses a while and then ends with error 1603 with no additional detail. The events in the Event Viewer for go like this: Product: Java 8 Update 45 (64-bit) -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action installexe, location: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_45\installer.exe, command: /s INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_45\" REPAIRMODE=0 That was an "error," and the next two are "information": Product: Java 8 Update 45 (64-bit) -- Installation failed. ...and: Windows Installer installed the product. Things I've tried This article linked to this hotfix. I installed it and tried again, but got the same error trying to install JRE. I tried right-clicking the installer jre-8u45-windows-x64.exe and choosing "Run as administrator". Same result. I tried Java 7 u79, and it also did not complete, and didn't even give an error code. Interestingly, it seems to have finished (in that Java-related items are now on the Start Menu), even though it said that something (didn't say what) interrupted it, and Event Viewer shows this: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Java 7 Update 79 (64-bit). Product Version: 7.0.790. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Oracle. Installation success or error status: 1603. Um...OK.
