I tried to use IP address and the computer name. None of them works. Figure 1 shows the error message - Unable to copy … System Error: 5 … Access is denied. Figure 1 I googled the error message and found error 5 the following two links from Dameware.com. The first one is http://www.dameware.com/support/kb/article.aspx?ID=300013. It says: "There is also a policy setting in Windows XP that does not allow you to access a remote machine running Windows XP over the network using an account that has a blank password. Therefore, if you are using an Account with a blank password, I would suggest that you create a new account with full Administrator rights and assign it a system error 5 password. Then use that account when attempting a connection via the Mini Remote Control program". Fine, I will create anew account as an administrator and add password for it. It still not work. The second link is http://forums.dameware.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=896. It says: "System Errors" are actually Microsoft Operating System Errors, not DameWare Errors, and a “System Error 5 – Access Denied” error can occur for many different reasons. The most basic reason is insufficient credentials to access this remote machine". Ok, let us deal with the Widnows 7 system. See if we can get around the problem. I looked at the machine with DMRC service installed and there are the following files in C:\Windows\System32 (XP Pro): DWRCST.EXE, DWRCSh32.DLL, DWRCSET.DLL, DWRCK.DLL, DWRCS.EXE. Since my Windows 7 is 64 bit, I checked installed directory of DWRC in my machine at C:\Program Files (x86)\DameWare Development\DameWare Mini Remote Control and found the following files: DWRCST.EXE, DWRCSh64.DLX, DWRCSET.DLL, DWRCK.DLL, DWRCS.EXE. I copied these file to C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Then click and run DWRCS.EXE. Wow, hooray! It works. DWRC service icon shows in the system tray. To see if it really working, I connected to this machine from another machine. It works like a charm. It is too bad, Dameware does not provide a valid solution for this.
