Error 5 Access Denied Starting Service Windows Server 2003
Deployment and Imaging Question 1 Sign in to vote I am deploying error 5 access denied print spooler 10 brand new Dell Optiplex 755 machines with Vista Business. However, every single machine, after being OK for awhile, will error 5 access denied win32 disk imager eventually have problems starting services, such as DHCP, Event Viewer and Firewall (in total it's about 12 services that won't start, but I believe that is because of a cascading effect). You get Error http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/dhcp-access-deniederror-5 5: Access is Denied in Event log, or if you try to manually start the service. The network connection status does not work, you get "The service or dependency failed to start" and just a red X through the icon. Other things won't work like remote desktop, some audio functions (eg in webcams), etc. This problem is driving me crazy and I have done https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/23351e06-dcbd-40ff-95da-368d0af5868c/firewall-dchp-services-wont-start-error-5-access-is-denied?forum=itprovistadeployment everything under the sun to fix it. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943996/en-us as it describes the problem pretty well, however, the solution does NOT work in my case. I have reinstalled machines, system restored machines (which sometimes works, sometimes doesn't), NOT installed windows updates, installed windows updates. I should tell you I am joining these machines to a domain (windows 2003 server). We also had a Windows 2000 server as a DC and I thought that was the cause of the problem, however I asked our system analyst to remove that server as a DC. So now only the Windows 2003 server is the DC, but the problem is still there. I will deploy the computer to the user, they will be fine for awhile, then after a little while if they log out or reboot, their machine will hoze itself. If they stay logged in all day they will be fine. Does anyone have any ideas why all 10 of my machines are hozing themselves? It takes hours to fix each one and I am running out of time here.... We have deployed dozens of vista machines at our head office and never

5: Access is denied New 05 Jan 2011 #1 thafrogggg View Profile View Forum Posts Newbie Join Date : Jan 2011 Ivor, Va Posts : 4 Vista Home Premium x64 W/SP2 Local Time: 20:20 Error 5: Access is denied I was having some malware problems on my system and a friend recommended running combofix to solve them. While running combofix, windows vista x64 popped an error saying that Pev.cfxxe had stopped responding and that it was searching for a solution. Then the window changed and only gave me the option to close the program. I waited 30 mins before I finally did close the program and then combofix seemed to complete normally and generate its log file. I think that combofix changes folder permissions when it is run and some of mine did not get changed back because after combofix finished, I tried to install a program update. I reveived the following error: Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied. I have never had this error before running Combofix, I am not blaming the program. I know that sometimes "stuff" just happens. Does anyone know if Combofix changes folder permissions? If it does, how can I get them back to the default permissions. I have uninstalled combofix as per the instructions on bleeping computer and used the system restore point that combofix generated before running, but I still have the same problem. I can right click on the setup file and run it as administrator, but I have never had to do that before. Anyone have any suggestions?
