Error 5 Access Denied Windows 7 Starting Service
Error 5: Access has been denied. I do not have this problem with Windows Server 2003. The folder permissions are set so the non-domain account i'm using has full access within the shared and NTFS settings. I've changed the following local policies on the win2008 server but still no cigar; Microsoft Network Client (always).. to enable If server agrees... to error 5 access denied windows 8 enable Send unencrypted password... to disable If client agrees... to enable Disconnect client when logon... to enable Network security: Do Not Store LAN Manager Hash Value... to disable Network security: LAN Manager authentication level... to sent NTLM response only Can anyone assist with this problem? Thx. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 8:13 PM Reply | Quote Answers 7 Sign in to vote Here's what I did to solve this problem, hope it works for you. Set the following group policy settings:Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options: Network Security: Do not store LAN Manager hash value on next password change - SET TO DISABLE Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level - SET TO SEND LM & NTLM - USE NTLM v2 IF NEGOTIATEDRefresh group policy by restarting the computer or typing gpupdate /force in the run dialog box.Reset the password on the user account. The password needs to be reset so that it stores the older LAN Manager hash value.Hope

When all computer are within XP, everything works just fine. I recently have been playing around with Bart's Network Boot disk so that I can run Ghost 2003 and save the image to the main PC's (PC1) image storage location which is a share. The problem I'm having is that when I use the Network Boot Disk I can use the net view or net use commands to see the shares. For example:PC1 - Main - 5 sharesPC2 - Secondary - 4 sharesPC3 - Laptop - 2 sharesWhen running the Network boot with PC 3, I login with the universal name & password that is on all the machines and input all the network information and I receive an IP just fine. I can ping each machine via IP just fine, can't ping by name. When I go to do a net view /workgroup:MyWgName, I get Error 6118: The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available. When I do a net view \\pc1, I get Error 5: Access has been denied and when I do a net view \\pc2 I see only 2 of the 4 shares. Also if I do a net use g: \\pc1\AShareName it prompts me for a password. I've tried every password on the remote machine and none work. If I do a net use g: \\pc2\MissingShareName, it works, but I can't see it when doing a net view \\pc2. This is really weird. How could this be when everything works great when doing everything from within windows, but when using the network boot disk, I either not seeing all the shares or getting denied from the machine itself. All 3 machine are setup the same so I having a hard time finding out what is going on here.If any more information is needed, please ask. I'm stuck and don't know what else to do.Thanks in advance for the help. · actions · 2005-Oct-15 3:05 am · cacrollEventually, Prozac bec
