When a system running Windows XP tries to access another system using Windows Vista or higher using error 5 the Net View command, the ‘System error 5’ is generated. The primary reason behind this is permissions which are not granted to the XP system to access the Vista computer. When full control to a system is not granted, the User Access Control (UAC) in Windows Vista also does not grant admin rights to local users automatically, even if the system is part of the administrative group. The main reasons for error 5 access this system error 5 are: Time Synchronization Issues The account trying to access is disabled or doesn’t exist on the domain. Missing Permission to access remote computer How to resolve System Error 5 To solve these issues you can try the following solutions: Time Sync Issues – If both the Vista and the XP system are set to different time zones this error can occur. To resolve the time zone mismatch, you can follow these steps: Click Start and then click Run. Type cmd and click OK. At the prompt type NET TIME /QUERYSNTP. You can also check if both the systems are present on the same domain because if they are not you will get a system 5 error. Try the next solution if this does not
Troubleshooting Error 5: Access Denied The information in this article applies to: DameWare Remote Support DameWare Mini Remote Control Error 5 Error 5: Access Denied suggest that you do not have the proper credentials to logon to the remote machine. Over and above everything else, whatever credentials you are using to attempt the remote connection must have rights to logon locally to the remote machine. In other words, the credentials must be a member of one of the following groups on the remote machine: Administrators Powers Users Users Server Operators Account Operators Backup Operators Print Operators However, if the remote machine is running Windows XP, then this behavior could be related to "Simple File Sharing". Windows XP Home & Windows XP Professional installed on a machines as part of a WorkGroup has "Simple File Sharing" (not to be confused with "File & Printer Sharing") enabled by default which offers no NT Challenge/Response Authentication. "Simple File Sharing" also does not allow you to remotely install/remove/start/stop the DMRC Client Agent Service. "Simple File Sharing" cannot be turned off in Windows XP Home, therefore you must manually install the DMRC Client Agent Service on machines running Windows XP Home. Once the DMRC Client Agent Service has been installed, then you should be able to use the "Encrypted (128 bit) Windows Logon authentication method to connect to this machine. There is also a policy setting in Windows XP that does not allow you to access a remote machine running Windows XP over the network using an account that has a blank password. Therefore, if you are using an Account with a blank password, I would suggest that you create a new account with full Administrator rights and assign it a password. Then use that account when attempting a connection via the Mini Remote Control program.
