Here are the details: I have a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop running Windows XP. Ever since I installed Drive Image 2002, I am getting an error message on startup (in DOS mode -- before the https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20877502/Need-Help-Fixing-Error-Finding-VFLOPPY-SYS.html main Windows screen comes up.) This is happening even after uninstalling Drive Image. The error message says, "Err 5: Error Finding VFLOPPY.SYS ERR 8: Fake floppy driver not found Press any key to boot active partition." When I press any key, my computer boots up normally and everything is fine ... But how do I get rid of this annoying error message that pops up everytime I start or restart my computer? I don't care about keeping the Drive Image software, I just want to get rid of the error. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks! I tried to create a separate partition on this hard drive, using partition magic, to use for backup. I had just successfully created one on my other computer using partition magic five minutes ago. It went through all the steps and then told me that it did not successfully create the partition on this one. I tried to run the "create restore discs" utility and it kept asking error 5 for a floppy disc which my machine doesn't have. Now every time I reboot, it brings up an black error screen that says: err5:error finding vfloppy.sys err8: fake floppy driver not found press any key to boot active partition I then press enter and it brings up the black screen asking me to choose which operating system to start. The choices are: Windows Media Center or System Restore Could someone tell me how to fix this please? audrei, Dec 7, error 5 error 2007 #1 Sponsor audrei Thread Starter Joined: Dec 6, 2007 Messages: 14 oops! sorry, I forgot to say this is windows xp media center service pack 2. Is this something that comes preloaded? audrei, Dec 7, 2007 #4 Elvandil Joined: Aug 1, 2003 Messages: 51,988 Not that I know of. Take a look at your boot.ini file. Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup... button > Edit button. Post what it says here. Elvandil, Dec 7, 2007 #5 Elvandil Joined: Aug 1, 2003 Messages: 51,988 From what I have found, this is a virtual floppy created by Drive Image. Have you also used a program with that name, or any other partitioning or imaging applications? Aside from the fact that I don't think you should use Partition Magic for anything other than keeping coffee rings off your tables, it looks like something created an entry in the MBR that is supposed to be removed after the operation completes, and it wasn't this time. I take it that you don't have an XP
