The findings-ERROR-5 (No SMART attributes to check) -- TEST FAILED.What exactly does this mean? I just installed a brand new HD in this thing and there is no way the drive is bad....is there? Also, how can I continue the test once it comes across an Error?answer to either of these questions would be greatly appreciated.thanks. macbook pro 17 penryn, Mac OS X (10.6.2) Posted on Dec 17, 2009 11:51 AM I have this question too Close Q: Question about SMART failure on new HD using ASD 3S123 All replies Helpful answers by DaddyPaycheck, DaddyPaycheck Dec 17, 2009 1:30 PM in response to jaredddddd Level 6 (16,037 points) Dec 17, 2009 1:30 PM in response to jaredddddd Is the drive smart enabled? Weird. Is there anyway to save the EFI logs? There is an option to save in OS but not EFI. Are they saved somewhere automatically? Check your drive manufacturers web site for such a configuration utility. Often they are Windows or even DOS (!!) only, so you may have to boot to Windows or off of a CD to run the utility. May. 27, 2010 item.115138 MacInTouch Reader I've been working with the command line utility "smartctl" and have recently noticed that a small number of the new computers shipping from Apple have the SMART support disabled. I get the following message: SMART support is: Disabled I can easily enable it and it then functions normally. So http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/harddrives/topic4812.html far, I have only noticed this on Hitachi drives. SoftRaid reported that the internal Hitachi 320GB drive showed excessive bad sectors, and was 20-60 times as likely as a good drive to fail within the next 2-6 months. On the SoftRaid site, I saw mention of their using the results of research done by Google on predictors of drive failure, but no details. Anyone have a better idea of what's going on here? And whether there's a utility I can use to get data to present to Apple, if warranted, to see about getting a replacement drive? Comment on this posting... I know I sound like a stuck record here, but SMART Utility from http://www.volitans-software.com will read an internal disk's SMART attributes directly and tell you if there are any bad blocks (se
TimeTime required a spindle to spin up to operational speed. This parameter is not used with an SSD, because obviously an SSD has no moving parts. 4Start/Stop CountEstimated remaining life, based on the number of spin-up/spin-down cycles. The value counts down, typically from 100 http://www.cropel.com/library/smart-attribute-list.aspx to 0. The Raw value holds the actual number of cycles. 5Reallocated Sectors CountThe http://www.moonnightjobs.net/error-5-test-failed-459459 number of the unused spare sectors. When encountering a read/write/check error, a device remaps a bad sector to a "healthy" one taken from a special reserve pool. Normalized value of the attribute decreases as the number of available spares decreases. On a regular hard drive, Raw value indicates the number of remapped sectors, which should normally be error 5 zero. On an SSD, the Raw value indicates the number of failed flash memory blocks. 6Read Channel MarginThere is no reliable information available about this attribute. 7Seek Error RateFrequency of the errors during disk head positioning. 8Seek Time PerformanceCharacterizes performance of mechanical seeks of a disk head. An SSD doesn’t use this attribute. 9Power-On Hours CountEstimated remaining lifetime, based on the time a device was powered on. The normalized value decreases error 5 no over time, typically from 100 to 0. The Raw value shows the actual powered-on time, usually in hours. 10Spin-up RetriesThe Raw value of the attribute shows the number of unsuccessful attempts to spin a spindle up to operational speed. For a rotational drive, this is fairly critical. An SSD does not use this attribute because there is nothing to spin up. 11Calibration RetriesA Raw value typically stores the number of unsuccessful read head and positioning system calibrations. 12Power Cycle CountEstimated remaining life, based on the number of power on/off cycles. The value counts down, typically from 100 to 0. The Raw value holds the actual number of power cycles. 13Soft Read Error RateThere is no certainity about the meaning of this attribute. Some bits of documentation quote this as the number of errors not corrected by ECC and subsequently reported to the host controller. Others conversely say this is the number of errors corrected by ECC. 100Erase/Program CyclesThe total count of erase/program cycles for entire flash memory in its entire lifetime. An SSD has a limit on how many times one can write to it. The exact values depend on a type and make of the flash memory chip. 103Translation Table RebuildThe number of events when internal tables of block addr

Details to follow This occurred to me both on the 5s and the 6 (never tested this on the 5). I use AT&T. I purchased the verizon version of both these iPhones because it came factory unlocked, and because when I sell it, I know it has the CDMA band and maybe possibly have more value If I restore my phone to factory default using iTunes (never tried it through Erase all contents and Settings) with a USA non-Verizon SIM card installed, when the phone comes back up, the activation screen says that the sim is invalid and the activation server policy is blocking it. Even if you put the verizon SIM card back in, it won't activate. Put in an international SIM card, and it works. Also, removing the sim card completely also works, but at that point the phone is an iPod. I noticed that if I put in the Verizon sim BEFORE restoring the phone, all is good I had to go through 3 replacements at the Apple Store before I got this right Wanted to know if anyone else experienced similar issues When I called apple care and verizon more than 5 times (spent 6+ hours figuring it out), no one knew what the hell was flying, and each company was blaming each other. I even set up a conference call between the two companies, and no luck. Previously I read in the forum that a senior advisor needs to file a high priority activation escalation. All senior advisors refused to do that. MacBook retina 15" gaming cpu forums.macrumors.com Hi, I'm still contemplating on which model to buy. As far as researching is
