Partition Magic problem Started by wishmd , Oct 14 2008 02:29 PM Please log in to reply 1 reply to this topic #1 wishmd wishmd Members 74 posts OFFLINE Local time:08:19 PM Posted 14 October 2008 - 02:29 PM I have Windows XP Pro on my computer. I ran Partition Magic 8.1 to resize partitioned drive d and e on one disk. The process froze, so I shut down and restarted the computer. Now apparently PM renamed the E partition as pqrp and partition E does not show up at all, neither does the data on E. Have been unable to recover. Downloaded PTEdit32.exe and tried to run it but that fails with error #5 starting PowerQuest Engine. Have not been able to chat with tech at Symantec, as their chat engine does not load. Help is much appreciated. #5 or #7 when I try to run it as administrator. Mark M, Aug 28, 2003 #1 Advertisements Patrick Guest Yes, ptedit32 should work on XP. You might try re-downloading the app - perhaps it's corrupt. I don't know if PowerQuest supports this free utility, but you might try calling their support line. Also, try finding and putting ptvxd.vxd in your windows\system folder. Hope this helps. Patrick, Aug 28, 2003 #2 Advertisements Smile Extender Guest At least it starts ok. I didn't try to change anything. At this PowerQuest web page http://www.powerquest.com/support/primus/id4374.cfm it says error 5 is either "Error finding VFLOPPY.SYS booting up." "Error 5 Can't copy file" althought PQ probably doesn't bother listing any error messages specific to a free utility like PTEDIT32. I get this when trying to open an image file in the Image Explorer - "Error 1810: Image error 5 file could not be accessed". The PQ website says this can be overcome using the technique in article PR4018 in their knowledge base - but this has been offline for a couple of weeks... maybe never to return? so it's anyone's guess what PR4018 suggests.. I got the same error but i used the cache function of google so i found their article. I hope that it can help you... Solution: Error 1810 Cause 1: Error 1810 can be reported when you attempt to select a non-supported partition type as the destination for the image. Lack of support for certain partitions is usually due to limitations of the version of DOS you used to boot the computer. For instance, if you boot from a Caldera OpenDOS diskette and then run Drive Image, Drive Image will be unable to write to FAT32, NTFS, or HPFS partitions because OpenDOS does not support these partition types. If you run Drive Image after booting from a Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98 bootable diskette, Drive Image cannot write to NTFS or HPFS, but can write to both FAT and FAT32. Fix 1: Check the file system of the partition that you are trying to save the image on. If it is unsupported by the version of DOS you used to boot your computer, then you will need to select
