It hangs on a screen with this error: Err 5: Error finding VFLOPPY.SYS Err 8: Fake Floppy driver not found Press any key After research, we've found out that one solution was to boot using DOS diskette and use fdisk /mbr command. Also, when we browse the registry under HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices, we can see https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24345751/ERR-5-Error-finding-vfloppy-sys-ERR-8-Fake-floppy-driver-not-found.html the A: poiting to the virtual floppy that is no longer used. Can we simply remove this registry entry or should we use the fdisk command? Will cause any damage to the currect mbr? When the choice is made to backup a partition, Drive Image rewrites the MBR (Master Boot Record) of your hard drive creating a 'virtual' floppy disk being loaded which allows Drive Image to run and make the image. When it completes the image, it is suppose to rewrite the MBR so that you boot normally but in this case, that step was missed which has created these error messages. A common reason for this can be that Windows XP has been set up to compress files on NTFS partitions. Here is how you can confirm that this is the problem: Go to: Program Files\PowerQuest\DriveImage 2002\VFD folder Select all of the compressed files displayed in blue, then right click one of them and remove the check mark in the "Compress contents to save disk space". Click OK Once all of the files are decompressed, click OK once again. Run Drive Image 2002 again and make another drive image. Drive Image should now be able to run its course and clean up what it couldn't before. If the above isn't the cause of the errors, then the best way to fix this would be to use the Recove

RE: Error 5 & Error 8 upon boot up Celestil (IS/IT--Management) 5 Jan 05 19:20 Hmmm, sounds like you are simply missing a driver. You can most likely fix it by re-applying any Service Pack you installed.I could not find a file list for SP4 but you can do this.Download the service pack and it will uncompress to a directory.Keep explorer open and you will see the directory appear.Look through the directory, if you see your vfloppy.sys driver then cancel out of the install (no changes will be made to your system) and apply the Service Pack when you can. That should restore the file.Keep in mind this may undo any Post-SP4 patches that you may have applied so you may have re-add those as well.Alos, makesure you have a backup of your system before y
