Take the action described in the table below to correct the error. Error Code E, 2 E, 3 E, 4 E, 5 E, 7 E, 8 E, 1, 4 E, 1, 5 Cause The machine is out of paper. / Paper does not feed. Paper jam. Ink has run out. The FINE mp140 error 5 Cartridge cannot be recognized. FINE Cartridge is not installed in the correct position. Ink absorber is almost full. The FINE Cartridge cannot be recognized. The FINE Cartridge cannot be recognized. Action Reload paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder and press the Black or Color button. The paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload the paper in the machine correctly and then press the Black or Color button. Ink has run out. Replace the ink cartridge and close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover). If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the Stop/Reset button for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition. The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled. Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing. The resulting print quality is not satisfactory, if printing is continued under the ink out condition. Possible causes are as follows: The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly. The FINE Cartridge may not be compatible with this machine. Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the Print Head Alignment. Confirm that the FINE Cartridges are installed in the appropriate positions. See "Replacing a FINE Cartridge" on page 24. The machine has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during Print Head Cleaning, for exa

Disconnect the power supply to the printer by removing the power lead from the back 2.Press and hold the Power Button whilst plugging the power lead back in, then whilst continuing to hold the button down press the Reset Button (the one with the red triangle inside the circle) twice 3.Release the Power Button and after around 10 seconds the display will show ‘0’ 4.
