The Operating System Returned The Error 32 The Process Cannot Access The File
I created a database on my local machine and then did a backup called tables.bak of table DataLabTables. I moved that backup to a remote machine without that table and tried to do a restore but get the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The operating system returned the error '5(Access is denied.)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DataLabTables.mdf'. How do I fix my rights, if that is the problem? sql-server sql-server-2005 create file encountered operating system error 5(access is denied.) while attempting to open backup restore share|improve this question edited Aug 11 '11 at 19:37 marc_s 454k938701033 asked Aug 11 '11 at 19:35 cdub 5,2852297186 add a comment| 15 Answers 15 active oldest votes up vote 183 down vote accepted I have just had this issue with SQL Server 2012. It turns out all I had to do was tick the box marked 'Relocate all files to folder' on the 'Files' section: (right click and select 'view image' to see image full size) This of course assumes you have the correct version of SQL Server installed. share|improve this answer edited Jan 20 at 5:48 marc_s 454k938701033 answered Jun 17 '13 at 11:24 Exile 3,22041522 3 Worked for me as well. These files below are in the directory but the problem is that when I run the query, it gives me this error: Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 1 Unable to open the physical file "C:\Murach\SQL Server 2008\Databases\AP.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)". I searched but I do not know exactly what the problem is, so I posted this question. sql sql-server share|improve this question edited Feb 22 at 21:25 MAbraham1 78431530 asked Aug 17 '13 at 8:30 dijai jijfs 322146 If the backup file exists already, please make sure it does not have the "read only" attribute, in addition to making sure that the service has the write permission. –tubelius Jun 20 at 11:09 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 50 down vote accepted SQL Server database engine service account must have permissions to read/write in the new folder. Check out this To fix, I did the following: Added the Administrators Group to the file security permissions with full control for the Data file (S:) and the Log File (T:). Attached the database and it works fine. share|improve this answer edited Apr 11 '14 at 7:00 user3414693 answered Aug 17 '13 at 8:37 Rahul Tripathi 101k1595173 4 Sometimes SQL server will run under a different user group other than Administrators Group –JDandChips Jun 2 '14 at 9:52 12 Also, it may help to start SQL Server Management Studio as Admin, not just the server service. –david.barkhuizen Jun 8 '14 at 14:29 1 For me the solut

The servers are linked via crossover. I am using this setup to practice my log shipping before I move to the production databases. I am using the wizard to complete the log shipping. The primary server SQLCOM1 operating system error is to backup and restore the DB on the secondary server SQLCOM2\SQL_Data using the default folders after the restore. SQLCOM2\SQL_Data has been shared and I have permissions for most of the default SQL groups as well as a user 'connect' and the local admin. When I go to execute the log shipping it throws the following:BackupDiskFile::CreateMedia: Backup device '\\SQLCOM2\SQL_Data\AdventureWorks.bak' failed to create.
