System Error 5- Access denied, but I'm admin! Started by crybaby error 5 , Jun 12 2009 07:23 AM Please log in to reply #1 crybaby Posted 12 June 2009 - 07:23 AM crybaby Member Member 175 posts Hey guys, I need your help yet again. Running on Vista Home Basic at the moment and trying to keep my password from expiring. My account is an admin but, in Command Prompt after typing in : net account /maxpwage:unlimited (or any number for that matter) I get this message: System 5 error system error 5 has occurred. Access denied. Can anyone help me out so that I may retain my current password, please? It expires in 2 days and this is the millionth time I've had to change it and I'm running out of memory in my head to handle any more. Thanks for your help! With UAC enabled, you need to launch cmd window from Start, Programs, Accessories. This will prompt for the uac to allow it. Otherwise you are not running cmd.exe with admin rights. 0 #3 crybaby Posted 12 June 2009 - 11:25 AM crybaby Member Topic Starter Member 175 posts Thanks for getting back to me! As much as I hate to admit it, I was following advice from another forum. Another embarrassing confession, I have no idea what cmd or UAC are. I have accessed the command prompt via start, programs, accessories each time I've tried as well. This time, I get a message stating "the syntax of the command is...". What am I doing wrong? 0 #4 starjax Posted 12 June 2009 - 12:31 PM starjax Global Moderator Global Moderator 6,585 posts cmd = comma
Microsoft we had to upgrade to windows 8. I designed and implemented a plan to migrate every user to the new operating system while minimizing downtime Create a Spiceworks Compatible Environment I am currently going through all the steps to integrate Spiceworks completely with our infrastructure. This includes having people use the Help Desk system, and getting our inventory fully accurate. Migrate Servers to VMware vCenter Migrated from one physical server running Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V hosted some guest Windows Server 2012 R2, off, then back onto the same physical hardware now running VMware vSphere (ESXi) TECHNOLOGY IN THIS DISCUSSION Join the Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Hey guys. I have a problem I cannot get around & it's starting to bug me. Trying to reset the time service on a windows 7 domain member. MS says to reset with default values: net stop w32time; w32tm /unregister w32tm /register; net start w32time The problem is I try this & constantly get access denied errors. I tried an elevated prompt (domain admin), no go. Thought it might be because it's a domain member, remove from domain, still no. Take ownership of drive, full control propagated down - no difference at all. I ran the command on our 2k3 Ent. server & it worked without any problems though! It's just the Windows 7 clients. Any suggestions? Thanks folks. Using powershell? some other scripting (batch or .CMD file?) I have found that each of these behaves slightly differently with regard to the credentials it uses and how you have to explicitly use them. Have you investigated the Event Viewer, specifically the Security Windows Logs?
