53, Error 2, DNS is correct. Windows 2012 R2 doesn't like /ou Categories: Uncategorized by TheDude We have been using a script for years that will join a Windows system to http://digitalsos.com/?p=682 our domain. Now with 2012 R2 it never executed. And this was not a DNS http://serverfault.com/questions/213877/error-53-the-network-path-was-not-found issue. Ping your DC's with the friendly name from the system first and if they resolve you are good. At first I thought was an issue with our 2012 R2 domain controllers. Apparently after researching this I saw that a duplicate SPN check can cause this. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3070083 Patch your DC's this hotfix was incorporated into later patches so error 5 if your up-to-date then you should be fine. Remove the /ou section of your netdom join statement. It worked for us for years, but now it just throws a error every time. And before you say anything I tried using CN for the computers section most of the time. Our statement was: netdom join $serverName /d:$Domain /ou:"OU=Computers,DC=cloud,DC=digitalsos,DC=com" /ud:SOS\joinUS /pd:$decrypted /reboot:20 >> $logfile Now it's just: netdom join $serverName /d:$Domain /ud:joinUS /pd:$decrypted /reboot:20 >> system error 5 $logfile Hopefully you won't throw away a week of your time chasing this down. This is a Windows XP Pro machine. It is hosting a VMWare virtual of my Domain Controller. If I attempt to net view [machine name] I get system error 53, The network path was not found. This is not a DNS issue, the same thing happens with the machine's IP. I don't think it's a firewall issue, I turned the firewall off on this machine. As I mentioned, it has worked in the past, and then stopped for no reason that I can see. I (intentionally) didn't change the software. I CAN get to the VMs hosted on this machine, can connect to their shares, net view them, etc. All other machines can see each other. In fact, the problem machine can see other machines and access their shares just fine. I tried removing the machine from the domain and re-adding it. I tried deleting the shares and recreating them. Not sure how to troubleshoot this any further. Any ideas? windows active-directory networking share|improve this question asked Dec 17 '10 at 22:52 Jack 31124 It is generally not good practice to have a VM host be a member
